State of Minnesota Licensed Practical Nurse in Shakopee, Minnesota

Job Summary Job Summary This position is designated as part-time with day/evening rotating shifts including weekend and holiday shifts as assigned. The work schedule will include at least 64 hours per two-week pay period and may include additional work hours, based on business needs. The position is eligible for a full employer contribution towards health and dental insurance benefits. For a comprehensive listing of State of Minnesota benefits, please visit https://mn.gov/doc/employment-opportunities/benefits/ The position assists practitioners and Registered Nurses in providing health care to incarcerated individuals at the Minnesota Correctional Facility-Shakopee. Job duties include: * Perform functions related to "rooming" the individual for practitioner examinations, including obtaining blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, weight and documenting offender's complaint. * Perform phlebotomy functions with individuals, including collecting blood and urine samples and performing other tests ordered by the practitioner. * Conduct Blood Pressure Clinic and other chronic care clinics with individuals. * Administer medication as prescribed by the practitioner. * Assist the Registered Nurse and practitioner in ongoing health maintenance and health promotion. * Provide necessary information for continued health care services available to individuals prior to release. * Attend training so that knowledge regarding health-related topics is current. THIS POSITION HAS DIRECT CONTACT WITH PEOPLE WHO ARE INCARCERATED. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: The following qualifications are required of all applicants seeking consideration for this position: * Graduation from an approved school of nursing plus current licensure in Minnesota as a Practical Nurse without limitations or restrictions. * Experience sufficient to perform advanced practical nursing duties in the care of mentally ill, physically ill, developmentally disabled, geriatric or clinic patients. Preferred Qualifications: The following qualifications are strongly desired of applicants seeking consideration for the position: * Experience working in a correctional or secured setting. * Clinical experience in a hospital, long-term care and/or clinic setting within the past five years. * Experience in specialized clinical area(s), such as in gender-specific, geriatric, juvenile health care, medical/surgery unit, and/or behavioral health. * Computer experience sufficient to complete electronic charting and use basic computer functions such as email. Physical Requirements The completion of pre-placement physical components may be required prior to hire for this position. These components consist of a drug test, tuberculosis screening, and/or respirator clearance. The selected finalist is required to review and sign a Physical Demands Analysis (PDA) for this position. Additional Requirements The selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. This may include a review of job performance and discipline records. New employees will be fingerprinted within the first 30 days of employment.
