Suffolk County Community College is seeking a dynamic Director of Procurement and Business Operations to be part of a talented team reporting to the Vice President for Business and Financial Affairs. The Director of Procurement and Business Operations is an exempt position; compensation will be based on the college's exempt salary and benefit plan. The Director of Procurement and Business Operations will plan, direct, manage, and supervise a wide variety of procurement and administrative activities related to the purchasing and contracting of materials, equipment, and services on a competitive basis for the college.

Recommends and establishes procurement guidelines, procedures, and policies, consistent with state and municipal laws and regulations, as well as institutional mission/needs and industry standards. Communicates procurement and related policies and procedures to the college community and provides/facilitates training(s) and or education to staff regarding same.

Supervises the development of “requests for proposals” ensuring the highest level of business ethics for all college activities, including facilities maintenance, repairs and capital construction.

Reviews and identifies opportunities for process improvements, standardization, utilization, other expense reduction or avoidance opportunities, improving customer satisfaction and the total value proposition of strategic sourcing.

Manages long-range purchase planning and needs analysis to simplify and standardize services and commodities and reduce fiscal year procurement costs.

Assures, relative to purchases for the college, that the vendors are providing their best ability, best availability, best lead time, and best pricing relative to the materials and/or services purchased from them.

Responsible for the management of the college's eProcurement system. Serves as the contact point with the software vendor and is responsible for coordaining updates and implementation of new software functionality including testing and providing training for college personnel.

Prepares purchasing reports, and provides analyses of trends.

Oversees changes in contractual services, including auxiliaries and concession services.

Administers a college-wide inventory control system, to ensure proper recording and maintenance of college assets.

Supervises and directs Central Receiving, warehouse operations, college-wide mail distribution and print shop.

Exhibits fiscal responsibility and accountability in the management of budgets of assigned areas. Maintains and oversees budget planning, revisions, and reports of assigned areas. Analyzes activities in areas of supervision to promote efficiency and cost reductions.

Serves on committees as appointed and participates in institutional management, advancement, and planning as needed.

Other related duties as assigned by the Vice President for Business and Financial Affairs.

Minimum Required Bachelor’s degree. A minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible experience in business operations, preferably in government or public higher education.

Preferred Master’s Degree. Certified Professional Public Buyer (CCPB) or Certified Professional Purchasing Officer (CPPO) certification.
