Position Summary

As Senior Legal Counsel, you will provide strategic legal advice to internal business partners with respect to healthcare programs and services and healthcare regulations and laws. You will proactively work collaboratively with business partners and other attorneys on a wide variety of regulatory matters, including client contracts, pharmacy operations, and legal and regulatory compliance.

You will be expected to develop a keen understanding of the business and operational goals of assigned internal clients and work diligently to develop and maintain positive relationships with clients at all levels of the organization. You will identify legal and business risks and provide solutions to internal business partners that balance legal risks and business objectives and take an active role in driving projects to a final result. Additional activities include managing outside counsel and supporting internal stakeholders to protect company assets, mitigate risk, and optimize operational performance.

As part of the Legal team, you will work with a dynamic in-house legal department and play a key role in supporting the business.

You''ll make an impact by:

• Advising internal business clients with respect to the application of federal and state laws and regulations to the business activities of CVS Caremark and CVS Specialty Pharmacy.

• Undertaking legal research and providing legal expertise on health care programs and services and company-wide initiatives;

• Providing daily risk-management support for assigned businesses.

• Working collaboratively with Compliance, Government Affairs, Privacy and CVS Caremark and CVS Specialty Pharmacy business operations teams to with respect to the application of federal and state laws and regulation to healthcare programs and services for assigned areas.

• Supporting review of product portfolios and marketing materials and member/customer/provider communications pertaining to assigned areas.

• Supporting contracts and materials prepared for client and vendor contracts.

Required Qualifications

  • 8 + years of experience as an attorney with working knowledge of healthcare laws and regulations, the False Claims Act, and the Federal Anti-Kickback Statute.

  • Excellent drafting and negotiation skills

  • Experience advising a health care research services organization.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to handle multiple priorities within deadlines without significant direct supervision.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Lead and influence others and while working collaboratively at all levels with internal and external parties.

  • Work Hybrid Model (in office Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday).

  • Licensed to practice law and current, active member in good standing of a state bar.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with the laws and regulations that impact the Specialty, Infusion/pharmacy business units, PBMs, including HIPAA, HHA licensing, Medicare, Medicaid (including Medicare/Medicaid billing and reimbursement issues), nurse licensing, patient safety and discharge regulations,.

  • Experience identifing business and legal risk while providing solutions to balance legal issues with business objectives.

  • Experience managing outside counsel and consultants.

Doctorate (Juris Doctor)

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$175,100.00 - $334,750.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
