ACTING ACADEMY ASSISTANT/STAGE MANAGER

JOB SUMMARY

Proctors Collaborative is the Capital District’s leading regional arts organization with performing arts venues in Albany, Schenectady and Saratoga, and education, civic engagement and economic development initiatives throughout the region. The School of the Performing Arts is the education wing of the organization, offering a robust series of training programs, classes and engagement programs in each venue, in schools and throughout the community.

The School of Performing Arts at Proctors, in Schenectady, New York is seeking an Acting Academy Assistant to support the running of an after-school youth theatre training program for middle school youth within Schenectady City Schools. This may include, but is not limited to, administrative support to ensure delivery of one full show per year while providing artistic support as the instructor runs the program. Assistant fosters an atmosphere of fun and learning where the concept of teamwork and inclusion can flourish, Teaching Assistant serves as a role model to youth, encouraging their efforts and teaching about new career opportunities along the way.

This is a Part-time position with no benefits. Acting Academy is an after-school program that runs annually from October 2024 to May 2025, Monday-Thursday from 3:30p.m. to 5:30p.m. (except during school breaks.)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establishes a combination of program activities to provide performing arts instruction as warm-up and break-out activities in collaboration with instructor.

  • Accountable for ensuring an emotionally and physically safe environment for youth that meets all compliance and safety requirements set forth by the organization.

  • Distributes schedule of all activities and ensures appropriate record keeping and reporting of all youth attendance.

  • Promotes positive character development in all youth.

  • Responsible for any youth enrollment paperwork, including emergency contact forms and attendance.

  • Keeps Education Program Manger informed of pertinent site information, including any challenges in fulfilling responsibilities.

  • Assist in transportation including escorting students to and from buses at the beginning and end of program.

  • Provide support to Acting Academy Instructor.

  • Lead small group activities.

  • Cueing and calling performances

  • Working with a combination of theater professionals from Proctors and the integration of students from ages 11-13 with a broad range of skill levels.

  • Responsible for rehearsal reports and dissemination of reports.

  • Assists in snack preparation and distribution for each day.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior work experience with diverse youth populations of varying racial and socioeconomic backgrounds.

  • Prior Stage Management experience

  • Musical theatre and/or performance background.

  • Passion for Collaborative School of the Arts at Proctors mission and youth development.

  • Reliable, organized, and punctual.

  • Knowledge of arts programming.

  • Strong leader and team-builder.

  • Ability to resolve conflicts and negotiate solutions.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with program staff.

  • Must have excellent organizational, time management and follow-up skills.

  • Responsible and professional conduct that serves as role model to staff and youth.

  • Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
