Purpose

Assistant Manager is located in Money Transfer Operations, Toronto, Canada responsible for ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

What You’ll Do:

  • Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge

  • Assistant Manager is the expert on credit risk and monitoring for wire transfers. Responsible for effectively resolving any payment/transaction/message exceptions and is consulted daily for guidance training and support.

  • Ensure that all incoming and outgoing payments are handled efficiently and delivered in a timely manner to the appropriate destination.

  • The Assistant Manager will monitor credit, balances and risk. This individual will also be the primary contact for credit escalations with Relationship Managers and occasionally with external clients

  • Ensure cutoffs/escalations are resolved by monitoring queues on a continual basis. Investigates and services messages received in departmental general mailbox, fax, phone or directly in BESS

  • Provides assistance and direction to all internal partners including but not limited to Global Transaction Banking, Branches, Branch Servicing Centres, Correspondent Bank, Securities Settlements, Scotia Private Client Group, Trust, McLeod and Global Prime Services

  • Contributes to the efficient and effective day-to-day operations and proactively respond to customer and/or team member inquiries while demonstrating professionalism and “best practice” standards to improve customer satisfaction and to promote a client focused culture

  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

  • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.

What You'll Bring:

  • The position requires a minimum of 5 years’ experience in Money Transfer Operations or similar operational type environment

  • Thorough knowledge of wire payments and the various business lines within Scotiabank supported by wire payments

  • Thorough knowledge of BESS (wire payment application) encompassing the workflow and accounting embedded in the system

  • The incumbent must be conversant with the variety of systems utilized in the Money Transfer Operations

Work Arrangement:

  • Work in a standard office-based environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence. Overtime and flexibility in working hours is required.

  • Time sensitive working environment can is demanding as clearing deadlines approach

  • High risk due to credit decisions that have to be made by the Assistant Manager occurring late in the day when credit and/or compliance is unavailable

  • The incumbent must be conversant with the variety of systems utilized in the Money Transfer Operations

  • Our Bank is committed to the delivery of customer service excellence. Ensuring our employees' hours of work are appropriate to meet the needs of the Department and our Internal Partners will facilitate us in meeting our customer service goals. Current hours of operations are 12:00am-8:00pm and include multiple shifts to ensure appropriate coverage. For planning purposes, prior to any shift changes, the officer will be provided with advance notice confirming hours of work to allow sufficient time to make any necessary arrangements. Occasional assistance may be required to support other shifts in order to ensure proper coverage.
