Kaiser Permanente Public Relations Consultant in San Francisco, California

Responsible for public relations and media relations services at the area and regional levels that promote and protect Kaiser Permanente's brand image and reputation as well as organizational goals and priorities. Works as part of a team with individuals assigned to geographic areas within the Northern California region.

Essential Responsibilities:

Identifies and escalates indicates, issues and situations that may lead to adverse media exposure.

Serves as consultant in online reputation management situations.

With supervision, creates talking points, statements and other responses to mitigate potential negative press.

Responds to news media inquiries as assigned and as they arise at the local and regional level. Serves as spokesperson to the news media and works with other spokespeople for consistency of content and approach. Serves as the organization's 'voice' on social media channels such as area and regional Twitter handles. Shares on-call media relations duty as needed for areas or region.

Advises and prepares subject matter experts and executives for media interviews and public speaking opportunities. Participates in delivering formal media training.

Gathers input of other communications staff in the organization to fulfill the objectives of Public Relations and Communications plans. Works with colleagues across departments to ensure consistency and integration of strategy implementation and communication objectives.

Develops and implements public relations strategy and communication plans in support of specific activities, events, services, projects and initiatives.

Basic Qualifications:


Minimum five (5) years of experience developing, implementing and monitoring strategic communications programs in a complex corporate communications environment.


Bachelor's degree in public relations, journalism or communications, or four (4) years of experience in a directly related field.

High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.

License, Certification, Registration
