As Plumber, under general supervision and with guidance from the Plumber Chief, an employee in this class performs skilled new plumbing installation and extension, replacement, alteration, maintenance, and repair of plumbing, drains, fittings, hydrants, valves, plumbing, heating fixtures, traps, and gas supply distribution according to specifications in the State Plumbing code. An employee in this class may train and direct the work of laborers, other maintenance employees, and other helpers. Performs related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

To be qualified for and considered for this position, applicants must meet all of the minimum qualifications listed below.   • Possession of a Minnesota Journey-level Plumber License.

  • Possession of a valid Drivers License, which may be required for specific job assignments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Facility or plant maintenance experience as a Journey-level Plumber

  • At least two years of experience performing preventive maintenance work.

  • Experience in soldering, pro-press and techniques attaching old plumbing to modern plumbing.

  • Experience in welding, soldering, and machining.

Physical Requirements

The completion of pre-placement physical components may be required for this position. These components may consist of a tuberculosis screening, commercial drivers license (CDL) drug test, and/or respirator clearance. Additional Requirements

The selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. Top candidate(s) must pass a criminal history check which includes successful completion of all sentencing and/or restitution requirements of law enforcement jurisdictions, including probation.

Employment history/reference checks, including incidents of sexual harassment, will also be conducted on the top candidate(s) in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. This may include a review of job performance and discipline records.

New employees will be fingerprinted within the first 30 days of employment.
