This position is located at the MnDOT Waters Edge building in Roseville, MN. The incumbent will have the flexibility to work in the office or a hybrid schedule. The incumbent will be required to report onsite Tuesday and Wednesday each week. If working a hybrid schedule, the incumbent will be required to make a telework arrangement with their supervisor.

This position will be posted to fill multiple vacancies

This position will prepare simple to highly complex temporary traffic control and pavement marking plans, and to provide field support to construction field staff for plan implementation.

Examples of work for this specific vacancy include but are not limited to:

• Produce temporary traffic control (TTC) and pavement marking plans using Microstation and SignCAD.

• Prepare traffic control layout drawings as needed.

• Prepare construction speed limit reductions.

• Prepare Detour Agreement documentation.

• Provide on-site evaluation and recommendations to address field problems, construction staging or plan revisions.

• Monitor work zone crashes using available crash data.

• Review TTC device placement

• Perform field reviews and collect field information from simple to highly complex projects

Minimum Qualifications:

The level of experience to perform this job at the Transportation Specialist level can be achieved with:

• Four years of experience performing Traffic Engineering activities that included at least two years of experience utilizing computer-aided drafting and designing (CADD).

OR

• Three years of experience performing Traffic Engineering activities that included at least two years of experience utilizing computer-aided drafting and designing (CADD) AND one year of experience in any of the following areas: road maintenance, road construction, design, surveying, materials/soils, right of way, sign repair/installation and/or permits.

• A Two year Civil or Construction Technology Degree or equivalent may substitute for one year of experience. Degree equivalencies include the following four-year degrees: Architectural, Civil or Mechanical Engineering; Land Surveying / Geomatics. (In order for education coursework to be considered in lieu of work experience you must submit a copy of your transcripts).

• Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.

Required License:

A valid Class D Driver’s License with no major traffic convictions in the past 5 years; OR 4 or more minor violations in the last 3 years; OR any combination of minor violations and at-fault accidents totaling 4 or more occurrences.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of construction plans and field inspections practices sufficient to discern differences between design plans and actual field conditions.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands of this job will vary but may require the ability to lift up to 100 pounds maximum with frequent moving and/or lifting or otherwise transfer of objects of various weights. This job also may require walking, moving, standing, to a significant degree on rough terrain or may involve sitting most of the time with pushing and pulling of arm and/or leg controls. This job may require strenuous physical labor including but not limited to digging, shoveling, hauling, crawling, bending, pushing, pulling and climbing.
