This position is located at Waters Edge in Roseville. The incumbent will have the flexibility to work in the office or a hybrid schedule. The incumbent will be required to report onsite at least once/month but may be required to work onsite more depending on business needs. If working a hybrid schedule, the incumbent will be required to make a telework arrangement with their supervisor.

This position is focused on the project management responsibilities for Transit Advantages projects for MnDOT's Metro District, serving as a leader in fulfilling MnDOT's responsibility in the development, design, and construction of transitway projects. The position is the MnDOT design and construction liaison to Metro Transit for specific transit projects.

This position serves a lead transit role for locally led transitway development plans and studies such as the Riverview Corridor, Blue Line Extension, and the Arterial Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system; similar roles are anticipated on future corridors. It serves a primary review role identifying impacts to transit providers for MnDOT design review responsibilities (e.g., state aid plan and development reviews).

This position represents MnDOT with the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Metropolitan Council, county boards, regional railroad authorities, cities, commercial railroads, the general publics, and serves in a leadership role in the MnDOT-related coordination of transitway projects in the Metro District.

Minimum Qualifications

Licensure as a professional engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience, and Interior Design (AELSLAGID) or ability to obtain licensure through Comity (Reciprocity). (If obtaining licensure through Comity, a temporary permit from AELSLAGID must be provided to MnDOT HR prior to starting employment.)

Three (3) years of post-registration engineering experience (Engineer Senior level or equivalent) that demonstrates:

  • Experience in the development, design or construction of transitway projects.

  • Experience in the coordination of multiple technical disciplines.

  • Experience in project management tasks involving internal and external stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading or supporting complex projects in all phases of project development including scoping, preliminary design, final design, bid documents, and construction.

  • Broad knowledge of transit-related engineering concepts, techniques, and operations.

  • Knowledge of light rail or bus rapid transit design specifications, departmental and office polices, and state and federal regulations which apply to design, construction, and personnel management.

  • Experience working with the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and the FTA New Starts program or Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).

  • Experience in leading and facilitating meetings with very complex and detailed materials.
