This posting represents one (1) vacancy, which is being announced at two different job classes simultaneously: Engineer Senior and Engineer 2 Graduate. The final class and starting salary will be dependent on the successful candidate’s qualifications.

This position is located at the Waters Edge Building in Roseville. The incumbent may have the flexibility to work in the office or a hybrid schedule. The incumbent will be required to report onsite at least once/month but may be required to work onsite more depending on business needs. If working a hybrid schedule, the incumbent will be required to make a telework arrangement with their supervisor.

The purpose of this position is to perform bridge and structure safety inspections, as well as assistance with bridge scoping and programming projects within the Metro District. The incumbent will be required to prepare and perform basic engineering calculations, analyze bridge, and structure inventory and inspection data. In addition, the incumbent will conduct bridge and structure field inspections, document inspection data with accuracy, and enter bridge element inspection data into the Structure Information Management System (SIMS).

Additionally, the incumbent will serve as the Bridge Inspection Program Administrator to review and approve the district’s bridge inspection and inventory reports, as well as serve as the technical expert for the overhead sign inspection program, or the bridge inspection training program; non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques, or the retaining/noise wall inspection program.

Minimum Qualifications

Engineer Senior:

• Applicants must be licensed as a professional Civil Engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience, and Interior Design or be able to obtain licensure through reciprocity.

• Knowledge of structure principles and practices of any of the following: Pre-design, Final Design, Planning, Construction, Maintenance or Bridge.

• Experience managing multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities.

• Knowledge of MnDOT standards and federal, state, and local laws, regulations, policies, and codes as they relate to transportation system planning, design, construction, maintenance, and operation.

• A valid Class D Driver’s License with NONE of the following: no major traffic convictions in the past 5 years; OR 4 or more minor violations in the last 3 years; OR any combination of minor violations and at-fault accidents totaling 4 or more occurrences.

Engineer 2 Graduate:

• A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university.

• Two years of post-graduate civil engineering experience.

• Completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam.

• Knowledge of MnDOT standards and federal, state, and local laws, regulations, policies, and codes as they relate to transportation system planning, design, construction, maintenance, and operation.

• A valid Class D Driver’s License with NONE of the following: no major traffic convictions in the past 5 years; OR 4 or more minor violations in the last 3 years; OR any combination of minor violations and at-fault accidents totaling 4 or more occurrences.

For both the Engineer Senior and Engineer 2 Graduate levels:

If advanced to the finalist pool, candidates will be assessed on the following criteria during a job interview:

• Human Relations skills that demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively and effectively with the public, businesses, elected officials, and other governmental organizations.

• Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing sufficient to give direction, facilitate meetings, make public presentations, presentations, and answer project specific and policy questions and to write letters and other documentation.
