The Department of Public Safety is seeking an Analyst/Programmer who will be assigned to work collaboratively with a team of other Analyst/Programmers to help with the strategic priority of managing the future growth and assist in maintaining the University of Rochester’s Lenel based card access systems and services in a 24/7 365 day production level environment.


This role:

This position is responsible for fostering future central access control system evolution using financially responsible methods & strategies. As well as maintaining positive support relationships with DPS executive, administrative/field staff, affiliated vendors, partners and other University programmers assigned to Public Safety’s associated projects; providing technical direction & guidance while upholding high end user and work team satisfaction.

Functional job responsibilities include:

The Department of Public Safety itself is responsible for leading the growth and direction of card access technology across the University and affiliated properties, supporting 3,300+ and 53,000+ active ID cards. Supporting duties include but not limited to:

  • Setup and support various ID card production office workstations and related peripheral equipment.

  • Provide quotes for new installs/upgrades/promotions/repairs of readers/RIMs/ISC boards/panels and other related peripheral equipment.

  • Work with vendors and other University affiliates to facilitate the installation/repair/programming of such components.

    • Assist in the maintenance of the Lenel affiliated servers, databases, software, and third party integrations.
  • Maintain current and relevant documentation on related processes and catalog related inventory details.

  • Program equipment into OnGuard and assist in implementing and testing every aspect related to Lenel during software upgrades.

  • Configuring user permission groups/time zones/access levels/elevator related functions.

  • Facilitate installs/repairs by provide wiring diagrams to affiliates and vendors.

  • Assist in report creation and further customization of Lenel related software as needed.


Exceptional valid NYS Driver’s License (will be operating UR vehicles).


  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline such as Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or other related discipline. Preference given to applicants with 1-2 years of proven related experience in providing Information Technology support or Lenel based ID card access support (preferably in a complex University setting); or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Detail-oriented and possess the ability and have the willingness to learn.

  • Have familiarity with some or all of the following: software/technologies/programming languages:

  • Lenel’s Card Access Suite (OnGuard, SysAdmin, Alarm Monitoring, Forms Designer/Data Exchanges, etc...)

  • Windows 10

  • Windows Server 2012 R2 or newer


  • HID/SEOS and Mag Stripe Cards

  • HID Encoders

  • NISCA IP printers/laminators

  • Digital Cameras

  • DAX

  • Crystal Reports
