Responsibilities

Provides medical care to animals used in support of lab project goals. Performs small animal experimentation including injection, monitoring, imaging, and sample harvest. Performs laboratory experiments and assays on samples generated. This work involves injection and analysis of pharmaceuticals and viral therapeutics. Assists in laboratory general support at the direction of the laboratory manager. Reports to laboratory manager and to laboratory principal investigator.

Qualifications

Qualifications: Associate degree in veterinary technology, Veterinary Technologist State Certification with two years' experience with lab animal species required.

Certification as Laboratory Animal Technician or Laboratory Animal Technologist through the American Association of Laboratory Animal Science is desirable.

Must be able to follow oral and written directions. Must have the ability to organize and carry out medical and surgical techniques independently. Good manual dexterity and must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays. Must be able to work well with others.

Preferred Qualifications: Perform laboratory and animal experimentation. Must have veterinary experience with small research animals including experience with the use of biohazards, imaging, anesthesia, surgical procedures, recovery, tumor implantation, tail vein injections, gavage, blood collection, breeding, and maintaining mouse colonies. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.

Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.; $24.75 -36.69/ hour
