Responsibilities

The Molecular Hematopathology laboratory is a dynamic team that offers a variety of esoteric testing to assist clinicians in determining the diagnosis and prognosis of patients with hematologic malignancies. A high volume of disease monitoring testing which is utilized to determine how patients are responding to treatment over time is performed in this laboratory. All of the testing is molecular based, and we utilize a variety of technologies including fragment analysis, Sanger sequencing and Next generation sequencing. We also support the molecular testing components of other labs in the division.

As a Technical Specialist I you will provide direction for the technical operation of the laboratory, including operation maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory instruments and assays. You will collaborate with your colleagues in the Technical Specialist II role, Technical Specialist Coordinators, and the laboratory management team to accomplish the goals of the Molecular Hematopathology Department. Additional responsibilities will include:

  • Validating and documenting operational changes using the test life cycle process (TLCP).

  • Providing direction for operational workflow, and serving as an expert resource for the work unit and for laboratory technologists.

  • You will actively partner with team members by fostering an inclusive work environment and respecting others with different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives.

*Individuals hired to this position are required to complete 2 years in this position before becoming eligible to apply to other positions within Mayo Clinic.

**This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship with the exception of the TN visa classification; Also, Mayo Clinic DOES NOT participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in clinical/medical laboratory science (CLS/MLS), medical technology (MT), chemistry, biological science from an accredited institution, or bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in addition to a certificate in MLS. In histopathology or non-testing laboratories, a bachelor's degree with laboratory certification if applicable. Two years of relevant laboratory experience required. A HEW certificate may be substituted for the specified degree. ASCP or other certification pertinent to the laboratory field may be required depending on the laboratory specialty and prevailing regulatory requirements.

Additional Qualifications

  • Experience with operation and troubleshooting of laboratory instruments and assays.

  • Capable of performing under time constraints, multi-tasking, and working in a fast-paced and changing environment.

  • Demonstrates self-motivation, attention to detail and excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Able to work independently.

$68,411.20 - $102,731.20 per year; Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.
