Job Information
Mayo Clinic Research Fellow - Microfluidic Engineering in Rochester, Minnesota
Responsibilities
Dr. Yuguang Liu’s team has an opening for a postdoctoral research fellow position in the Microbiome Program, the Center for Individualized Medicine at Mayo Clinic. ( https://www.mayo.edu/research/faculty/liu-yuguang-ph-d/bio-20503555 ) This position is funded by Dr. Liu’s recent NIH/NIGMS R35 grant - Maximizing Investigators' Research Award. The goal of the study is to understand how the transcriptional functions of the microbial and the immune cells co-evolve over time. The key responsibilities of this position include developing a droplet-based microfluidic platform and user interface to study the interaction between single microbial and immune cells through single cell encapsulation, co-culture, signal monitoring, cell sorting and sequencing. The research fellow would also work with teams and lab facilities within the program and across the institute to perform engineering and biology-related work.
This work will ultimately help map different immune cell phenotypes and their responses to various microbes, which will lead to the better understanding of the heterogenous and dynamic immune responses; meanwhile, this effort will build a foundation to shed new light on mechanisms that impact the fostering and disruption of microbe-immune relationships and ultimately lead to new insights on strategies to effectively targeting various diseases such as cancer, infectious and autoimmune diseases.
