Responsibilities
Mayo Clinic Robert D. and Patricia E. Kern Center for the Science of Health Care Delivery is seeking an outstanding Postdoctoral Research Associate in a field such as Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, or Biomechanics. This individual will split his/her time between (1) working on challenging methodological problems in the realm of wearable sensor application, including methods for developing and validating digital health-related biomarkers; and (2) getting experiences as a collaborative data scientist, including writing analysis sections and conducting analyses for ongoing projects.
The candidate will be primarily mentored by Dr. Emma Fortune Ngufor, the Robert D. and Patricia E. Kern Wearables Taskforce Lead and Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering within the Kern Center. Kern Center has nearly 200 staff members of whom 23 are PhD faculty, working on over 140 active projects in collaboration with over 120 practice partners across all Mayo Clinic sites. There will be no shortage of opportunities to collaborate and learn, as well as get involved in real-world methodological advancement. The candidate will be co-mentored by Dr. Moein Enayati, Assistant Professor of Health Care Systems Engineering in the Kern Center. Dr. Enayati is an expert on artificial intelligence and machine learning. The candidate will be closely working with Drs. Fortune Ngufor and Enayati on developing new methods that address emerging challenges in leveraging wearable sensors to improve health care delivery supported within Mayo and beyond.
Qualified candidates are expected to have a PhD in Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, Biomechanics or a related field with a strong background in data analytics and applications.
The preferred candidate will have
• Experience working with wearable sensors and real-world data
• Methodological expertise in physiological signal processing, machine learning, and statistical analysis.
• Prior experience with publications, conference presentations, or grant applications in digital health research
A Research Associate in Health Care Delivery Research (HCDR) works independently and leads projects. The primary focus is on health care delivery and cutting edge research to design, develop, and test strategies that transform patient care and outcomes.
A Research Associate at Mayo Clinic is a temporary transitional role with the primary purpose to allow qualified individuals to work within an established investigator's program in preparation for an academic and/or independent research career. The ability to perform specialized or complex functions would typically be demonstrated through review of scientific accomplishments, contributions, and peer-reviewed publications averaging at least one per year post-doctoral degree. The Research Associate is expected to provide leadership support and training within an established research program. Upon background check and CCATS Executive Committee approval, Research Associate may have patient/research subject contact directly relating to and incidental to the original research program. "
