Responsibilities

The Immunodermatology Lab is largely involved in serum-based testing with a singular pathology-based test. A variety of tests using indirect and direct immunofluorescence techniques alongside ELISA based testing is also included in the work done in the Immunodermatology Lab. The MOHS Lab cuts and processes surgical tissues using H&E stains alongside a suite of immunohistochemical stains. This is done while the patient is waiting in their surgical suite. The Dermatopathology Lab is fully pathology based and works closely with Histology and our dermatopathologists to generate reports for dermatology-based biopsies.

As a Pathology Reporting Specialist within Dermatopathology, you will be responsible for supporting pathologists and other healthcare providers. You will be accountable for ensuring the accuracy and completeness of all documents, tests, and patient case reports which enables the pathologists to focus on patient care. Tasks will include:

  • Transcribing pathology reports as well as research and administrative documents.

  • Coordinating patient case correspondence/materials.

  • Ordering tests and stains for cases.

  • Answering telephones and providing related follow-through.

  • Participating in process improvement which includes data collection, coordinating case conference materials, and maintain consultant calendars.

  • Serving as a resource and mentor to others by training, educating, and mentoring both new and existing members of the work unit.

  • Trouble shooting and resolving problems.

  • Demonstrating initiative, proficiency, and good judgment to optimize the use of consultants and other allied healthcare providers' time.

  • Actively partnering with team members by fostering an inclusive work environment and respecting others with different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives.

  • Working cooperatively with peers in a shared work environment and gives and receives constructive feedback.

*Individuals hired to this position are required to complete 2 years in this position before becoming eligible to apply to other positions within Mayo Clinic.

Qualifications

To be considered for this position you must meet one of the following qualifications.

  • Five years of secretarial experience OR

  • Associate degree or completion of a formal medical secretary and/or transcriptionist program AND three years of experience in healthcare related operational functions (i.e., hospital services, medical administrative assistant, desk or appointment functions) OR

  • Bachelor degree AND one year of relevant lab experience

Additional Qualifications

  • Experience working with computer software applications including word processing, spreadsheet, database and electronic calendaring/scheduling systems, and web applications is also required.

  • Strong organization skills, with a commitment to quality and excellence

  • Highly motivated to start and complete tasks independently, and in a timely manner

  • Ability to prioritize and handle an assortment of tasks to support a variety of consultants along with multiple specialties

  • Efficient, with the ability to multi-task

  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team, with excellent interpersonal relations

  • Strong communication skills (both written and oral), with excellent grammar, punctuation, and use of the English language.

  • Customer service skills

  • Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment and work collaboratively and professionally with a variety of work areas

  • Ability to understand diverse accents and speech variations

  • Possesses a high-level in attention to detail

  • Good decision-making and judgment

$22.27 - $31.91 per hour; Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.
