Position description

A medical intensive care unit that provides intense interventions and treatments for a wide scope of medical concerns including severe sepsis, GI bleed, respiratory failure, renal failure, cardiovascular and neurologic conditions, and multiorgan failure. End-of-life, palliative, and chronic disease management are incorporated into goals of care as needed per patient and family wishes. This unit will undergo a restructuring in Winter 2022 to become a 32 bed unit.

The Nurse Supervisor 24/7 practice is responsible for supervising patient care, operations, and staff development for their assigned specialty area. This individual promotes excellence based on department specific and organizational goals. The scope of responsibility for this position includes 24 hour clinical accountability for assigned areas. The Nurse Supervisor 24/7 practice creates a professional environment conducive to the delivery of quality patient care and is an advocate for patient and staff safety. This position requires collaboration with all other Mayo services to enhance patient care and assure that appropriate care is delivered for the population served. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span. The ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and appropriately interpret information relative to the patient's specific needs is required. The Nurse Supervisor 24/7 practice supports leadership through activities that include development of staff, teaching, and community involvement. The individual may also be involved with hiring staff, staffing the unit and participation in committees and research. The individual supervises nursing practice within a hospital-based program/unit and has supervisory responsibilities such as staff performance reviews.

The individual should expect a combination of administrative and clinical tasks, including but not limited to epraisal evaluations, approving timecards, staff development and managing required competencies and certifications.

Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited baccalaureate degree program. Masters preferred. Minimum 2 years of clinical or supervisory experience required.

Additional qualifications

Demonstrated leadership ability and interpersonal effectiveness required. Strong communication, interpersonal, critical thinking, problem solving, and computer skills required.

ICU experience preferred. Charge Nurse experience preferred. Masters degree preferred.

Internal applicants should attach their three most recent performance appraisals.

License or certification

Current state RN license deemed acceptable by the State Board of Nursing in which the RN practices. Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.

Midwest: Maintains current Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers from one of the following programs: American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

Additional specialty certification/training as required by the work area.

Compensation Detail

Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum salary every 2 weeks is approximately $3190.40, based on a full-time position.
