Responsibilities

Mayo Clinic’s Division of Plastic Surgery is hiring a nurse practitioner or physician assistant (NP/PA) to work collaboratively with a team of physicians, fellows/residents, nurses, and other allied health staff to provide all aspects of high-quality patient care in the operating room (OR), including breast cancer reconstruction and other reconstructive plastic surgery cases. The division is internationally renowned for excellence, innovation and performing cutting-edge procedures. Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants are valued members of the care team within Plastic Surgery and essential to meeting the health needs of our patients. The Plastic Surgery practice has 13 surgeons and 13 NP/PA staff.

The NP/PA will primarily support plastic surgeons in the Mayo Clinic Rochester Methodist Hospital OR, with a focus on reconstructive cases. Support for other plastic surgery cases will also be part of the role. In addition to the surgical aspect of the role, comprehensive assessments of patients will be performed preoperatively, intraoperatively, and in the post anesthesia care unit. The NP/PA will also facilitate discharging patients. Currently, this position will not require weekends, holidays, nights, or on-call.

Applicants are expected to demonstrate leadership skills and the ability to create a positive, collegial, and welcoming working environment. A high level of autonomy is expected.

Ability to problem-solve, work independently, and assume responsibility for patient interaction is required. Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills for effective interactions with patients, family members, and colleagues are also required.

Qualifications

Masters prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and Nurse Practitioner program and current Minnesota RN license and certification as an FNP; or graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program with current PA certification by NCCPA and registration as a PA by the Minnesota State Board of Medical Practice.

Must be eligible for DEA registration.

Completion of BLS and ACLS required.

First assist/OR experience preferred. Orientation to consultant specific training will be provided.
