Responsibilities

The Division of Engineering designs and implements innovative solutions for a wide variety of priorities at Mayo Clinic. Our primary focus is on the development of medical devices and laboratory instruments for our physicians and researchers. Our products cover the patient care spectrum from bench-top prototype to patient bedside.  We are a unique resource for a healthcare institution, and one that helps Mayo Clinic maintain its #1 rating in the country for healthcare delivery. We seek a recent graduate from a 2-year program in CNC machining to join our team of experienced machinists. The successful candidate will design and fabricate components of biomedical systems with coaching and mentorship from senior staff. This position will have exposure to a high number of one-of-a-kind short run products with a focus on Mastercam programming and operation of manual and Haas CNC machinery. Other capabilities include plastics fabrication, molding and casting, laser cutting, marking and welding, waterjet and sheet metal fabrication. They will work in a multi-disciplinary engineering and healthcare environment both as a team member and as an individual contributor. They will be introduced to a variety of engineering processes and controls including our FDA compliant quality management system (QMS) and product safety.

This is a limited tenure position that has been approved for the posted assignment duration. Limited Tenure (LT) means that if you are offered the position and accept it:

  • You will be categorized as a regular employee during the tenure, but employment will be terminated on the established end date.

  • You committed to stay in this position until the end of the tenure (approximately 1 year) before you become eligible to transfer to another position.

  • After the completion of the limited tenure assignment, it is your responsibility to secure another role within Mayo through the job vacancy process or employment will be ended upon the completion of the limited tenure assignment.

Qualifications

2-year degree in CNC Computer Integrated Machining | CNC Machinist Technology | Advanced Manufacturing Technology | or equivalent.Knowledge of machine shop operations is required. PC skills required (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.).

CNC programming: basic skills required; MasterCAM skills preferred. CNC Machining Center operations: basic skills required. HAAS Machining Centers experience preferred.
