MnDOT District 6 is looking to fill a summer Student Worker Para Professional Senior/Student Worker Para Professional position in our Mechanic Shop. Typical Hours (Monday - Thursday) 6:00AM - 4:30PM OR (Monday - Friday) 8:00AM - 4:30PM

Job Description of Vacancy:

Enjoy working around heavy equipment? This position will help prepare older MnDOT equipment for auction, assist mechanics with scheduled and unscheduled heavy equipment maintenance, inspections and repairs. Duties will include organizing and light janitorial work around the equipment shop.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge of heavy equipment repair, diagnosis, maintenance and modification of heavy-duty diesel trucks, agriculture equipment, gasoline powered vehicles and mechanical and electronic controlled systems for engine, brakes, drive train, steering, suspension and hydraulics.

  • Knowledge of computer programs and software that is used in equipment repair, maintenance and fleet management such as windows-based computer programs and M5.

  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize the workload to best fit the transportation needs. The ability to effectively respond to emergency situations.

  • Candidates must be currently enrolled or enrolling within three months as a full-time student (six semester/9 quarter credits) in a post-secondary or graduate program with a GPA of at least 2.0.

  • Valid Class D Driver‘s License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Candidates currently enrolled as a full-time student in a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Automotive Mechanic, Mechanical Engineering or related program with a GPA of at least 3.0.

Physical Requirements

  • Some of the jobs are physical in nature and will require a pre-employment physical.

  • Weather elements: May require frequent exposure to weather elements (cold and hot) on a daily basis.
