Position description

The Telecom/Network Engineer will configure, manage, troubleshoot, support and implement Mayo's enterprise Network Infrastructure. Will also perform limited project management with some coordination of efforts by various support staff. Communicates project status to project proponents. Under general supervision, participates in decisions on technical direction, architecture design, and product selection for the enterprise data network. Exercises independent judgment. Under general direction works on complex technical issues. Provides input to short and long-term section strategy and budget planning. May be required to perform some of the duties of Telecom/Network Specialist. Receptive to new ideas and to learning new technologies. Plans and leads small projects and performs project management coordinating the efforts of internal and external staff with the customer and business needs. On occasion oversees projects and tasks assigned to project team members and may be asked to provide input to their evaluations. Occasionally works under stressful conditions, participating in implementations and troubleshooting efforts that may have significant patient care and/or financial impact to the organization. May be asked to represent Telecommunications and Networks to committees at Mayo.

This position is a member of the Network Operations unit supporting Mayo's enterprise networks. This position is a career opportunity for a well-qualified and motivated person seeking a Network Engineer opportunity in Network Operations. The Network Operations unit is a team of highly skilled network professionals whose shared primary responsibility is to support Mayo's enterprise data network including its LAN, WAN/MAN, data center network, wireless, remote access, security appliances as well as many various appliances supporting underlying network services. This person will focus much of his or her work on Network troubleshooting and support of a wide range of networking infrastructure and will be an escalation point for less experienced level 2 staff.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline with a minimum of 2 years professional technical work experience or an Associate’s degree with a minimum of 4 years of professional technical work experience. A minimum of 6 years professional technical work experience required for individuals without a degree.

Additional qualifications

Expert knowledge of telecom/network concepts and 7-layer OSI model is required. Knowledge of basic telecom/network management and monitoring tools. Basic understanding of desktop and server operating systems is desirable. Must be able to work with minimum direction and able to work effectively in a team environment. Must be customer focused and possess excellent communications and interpersonal skills to interact with a variety of personnel at various levels within and outside the institution. Good organizational and time management skills are required to handle the workload and track the various projects going on simultaneously. Solid analytical skills are also a necessity. Experience supporting Cisco network infrastructure. Certifications are preferred but not required

Compensation Detail

Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum salary every 2 weeks is approx $3,019.00, based on a full-time position.

Week begins at 10pm on Saturday and ends Wednesday morning at 8am

Saturdays and Sundays as indicated
