Responsibilities
The Plan, Design and Architecture Unit within EIS Service Management is seeking an IT Systems Architect to focus on Networking Infrastructure with an emphasis on cloud network connectivity and software defined networking (including automation and orchestration capabilities). They will have responsibility for planning and designing high-performant and operationally viable network solutions across all of Mayo Clinic’s campuses and clinics.
With limited direction, an IT Systems Architect I is considered a technical leader. He/she is expected to assist in instructing, directing, and assisting other staff. Effectively works with other staff both within and outside the immediate work area as assigned to investigate and resolve problems. Has responsibility for technical architecture and recommendations related to overall systems operations. Is expected to serve as a top-level technical contributor with advanced knowledge and experience in the area of Systems administration, Database administration, Network administration, or other areas of specific expertise. Maintains a high level of technical expertise and studies vendor products and services to identify those which best meet the needs of the Mayo Clinic. Assists in providing integrated team leadership for support and maintenance of hardware, software, and services. Recommends procedures and policies that will improve the workflow both within the work unit and across various work units and sites. An IT Systems Architect I is expected to possess and maintain a strong working knowledge of several multi-platform technical environments. Is willing to assume a leadership role to direct and coordinate the work of other staff as assigned. Willingly participates on workgroups, subcommittees, committees or task forces, providing leadership in the technical design, selection, and application of the information systems resources to satisfy complex system requirements that meet the needs of Mayo Clinic. Consistently demonstrates commitment to meet deadlines and priorities and sets a good example for others to emulate. Works effectively across departmental organizations gaining consensus of stakeholders. It is expected that this position will serve on institutional committees and/or workgroups and provide consultative expertise in their area of expertise. Will likely be asked to provide consulting services or act as an information resource and/or mentor both internally and externally to the work unit.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding and experience with:
Cloud and networking technologies and the concepts of NaaS and SDN/NFV in terms of enterprise customer networking needs and solution development
SWG (secure web gateway) and ZTNA (Zero Trust Network Access) solutions such as Cloudflare One, Prisma Access, and ZScaler ZIA/ZPA
Network design, configuration, automation tooling, telemetry, authentication technologies
WAN and backbone network protocols and concepts (BGP, OSPF, MPLS, TCP/IP, VPN, DNS, routing, switching etc.)
Leveraging next generation firewall technologies in an enterprise network setting
Additionally, strong communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and the ability to work well in a team environment are important for success in this role.
This position is 100% remote within the United States.
Authorization to work and remain in the United States, without necessity for Mayo Clinic sponsorship now, or in the future (for example, be a U.S. Citizen, national, or permanent resident, refugee, or asylee). Also, Mayo Clinic does not participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.
Qualifications
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree plus 5 years of demonstrated technical experience and 1 year of demonstrated leadership experience or an Associate’s degree plus 7 years of demonstrated technical experience and 1 year of demonstrated leadership experience. A high school diploma and 9 years of demonstrated IT technical experience focused on proficiency in managing operating systems, including configuration, internals, and maintenance processes in a large, complex organization like Mayo Clinic plus 1 year of demonstrated leadership experience may be considered in lieu of the degree.
Additional Qualifications
Experience working in healthcare technology. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in relevant technical discipline.
Advanced level experience in managing both custom developed and vendor-supplied applications necessary.
Qualified candidates should have demonstrated proficiency in managing operating systems, including configuration, internals, and maintenance processes, and be able to share those proficiencies with others.
Experience with SAN, NAS, and virtualized storage environments and server consolidations and virtualization also helpful. Experience in system hardware design, ordering, configuration, testing and implementation of large/complex projects. Mastery level expertise in one or more computing technologies. Demonstrated understanding of the principles of Systems Analysis and Design. Advanced level experience with large scale Project Management. Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational skills, problem solving skills, facilitation skills and the ability to interact with all levels of personnel within the organization and across multiple sites. Proficient verbal and written communication skills using English.
