Responsibilities

Ensures that medical imaging equipment is repaired in a timely manner, works reliably, is safe to operate and functions properly. Consistently demonstrates a mastery of the skills necessary to perform preventive maintenance, quality assurance testing, equipment calibrations, installations, and corrective maintenance on a variety of imaging equipment. The individual may be required to support several technologies types including MRI, CT, PET, ultrasound, general and interventional X-ray, mammography, nuclear imaging, and linear accelerators. May be asked by the Unit Head to provide input to the buyers on service related topics and coordinate with project managers, facilities projects, and the vendor to ensure the equipment is installed properly for optimum performance. The individual will configure equipment to work properly on the hospital network, assure equipment firewalls, antivirus, and operating system software are properly configured, and work to ensure data security policies and procedures are being taken into consideration. The individual must have good analytical skills and be able to solve technical issues in a timely manner. Must be able to analyze electronic and electrical circuits, interpret error logs and formulate or follow a repair plan while under pressure to get equipment working quickly. During corrective and preventative maintenance the individual will run software and hardware diagnostics, take measurements, make adjustments, and perform functional checks. A person in this position must be able to use oscilloscopes, analyzers, multi-meters, dosimeters, and other types of test equipment during the maintenance process, and document results and activities appropriately per policies and procedures. Stored energy, high voltage and ionizing radiation are risks the technician must contend with when working on equipment. A good understanding of the Medical Equipment Management Plan (MEMP) policies and procedures and regulatory agency’s guidelines is required. On-call and overtime is often required as well as travel to other Mayo Clinic sites. Technician must present a professional image and use excellent communication skills when dealing with staff, contractors, and vendors.

Qualifications

Must have one of the 4 below:

  • Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering Technology, engineering, electronics, or other technology related fields , or

  • A non-related Bachelor's degree plus (HTM) vendor specific training equivalent or greater than an Associate's degree in electronics or Biomed, and 5 years of experience as a Biomed Technician or Field Service engineering in Imaging or

  • An Associate of Applied Science degree in biomed electronics, electrical engineering, electronics, or other technology related fields or

  • US Military training in biomed electronics, electrical engineering, electronics, or other technology related fields.

Experience repairing medical imaging equipment in a hospital or clinic, AAMI ACI Certified (BMET Biomedical Electronic Technician, CRES Certified Radiological Equipment Specialist). Knowledge of mathematics, physics, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, biology, and medical terminology. Comprehensive understanding of common clinical terminology used in a hospital or clinic. Comprehensive knowledge of networks, computer hardware, computer software, and computer security. Advanced level of professionalism.

In addition to meeting the minimum requirements, candidates with two years of experience in a clinical setting servicing medical equipment is preferred.

Authorization to work and remain in the United States, without necessity for Mayo Clinic sponsorship now, or in the future (for example, be a U.S. Citizen, national, or permanent resident, refugee, or asylee). Also, Mayo Clinic does not participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.

Schedule Details

Work schedule is typically eight hour days between the hours of 7:00AM and 8:00PM. Occasional earlier or later shifts are required based on departmental needs.

Weekend Schedule

Occasional weekend shifts are possible dependent on workload, and special projects.
