Position description

This position will reside within the Plummer Chart (‘EHR) Project Management Office and report to the Director, EHR PMO

The Program Manager is accountable for oversight of multiple projects within the Plummer Chart (Epic ‘EHR) PMO Organization and delivery of results. The incumbent will partner with practice leadership to impact and improve the experience of users and work on EHR practice priority programs.

The Program Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of significant enterprise-wide program consisting of multiple inter-related projects that span multiple years and are of strategic priority. The Program Manager leverages leadership skills necessary for Program Governance, Strategic Alignment, Benefits, Stakeholder and Life Cycle Management. Actions related to these involve leading and coordinating common program activities, resolving resource constraints, communicating, proactively managing risks, resolving scope/cost/schedule/quality and risk impacts, and reporting to stakeholders. It also includes active engagement in program management processes to effectively manage assigned program objectives with a solid understanding of organizational culture and processes, of stakeholders, needs, expectations, and program objectives. This position requires strategic visioning and planning skills to align program goals and benefits with the long-term goals of the organization. The Program Manager is responsible for leading the program team in establishing program direction, identifying interdependencies, communicating program requirements, tracking progress, making decisions, and resolving conflicts and issues.

This position requires coordination and collaboration with Mayo Clinic leadership and staff, external partners, and program/project managers across the organization to support the successful completion of the program to achieve the intended benefits. The Program Manager may participate in management and serving on inter- and intra-organizational groups, task forces and committees. The incumbent models Mayo Clinic’s core values and works collaboratively with physician and administrative partners, and across sites, shields, departments, and the enterprise. The Program Manager uses advanced negotiations skills characterized by innovative thinking and possesses strong business acumen with the ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds to build relationships across the organization. The position may require direct and/or indirect supervision and evaluation of staff, contractor/vendor resources, and other internal or external resources.

The Program Manager will be also responsible for employing and guiding the project managers and their teams in manner that provides the guidance and support necessary for them to successfully manage projects and deliver the intended results.

Qualifications

Master's degree with 15 years' experience in Project and Program Management.

Additional qualifications

Education preference: Program/Project Management and/or Business Administration. Experience preference: Committee and consensus-managed, physician-led organization, and operations management.

Candidates should also include any active/current certifications they have, including Certified Product Management, Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Advanced Certified Scrum Master (A-CSM), PMI Agile Certified Practitioner, and/or Certified Scrum Professional (CSP).

Prefer:

  • Demonstrated success in serving as the leaders in managing large, complex, multi-million dollar, enterprise initiatives.

  • Skilled in effective decision making and consensus management.

  • Strong understanding of program management, project management, business process development, financial management, resource management, risk management, and stakeholder management.

  • Experienced in managing large teams of direct and indirect staff, staff development, team building, coaching, and consulting.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, high level of emotional intelligence, self-motivated, commitment and strategic insight, and highly organized. Demonstrated history of continuing education in project management and administrative processes.

  • Knowledge and understanding of current practice, education, research, and administration directions and challenges.

  • Prefer at least 5 years of experience in mult-hospitals, large health systems, working with Committee and consensus-managed, physician-led, operations management.

License or certification

Active (unexpired) Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI) is required. Program Management Professional (PgMP) certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI) is preferred and required within 3 years of hire date.
