Responsibilities

Phlebotomist – Donor Services: Collects units of blood from volunteer blood donors while monitoring collection equipment and the donor for signs of adverse reactions. Performs vital signs, point of care testing, and reviews standard questionnaire to evaluate safety of blood donor and transfusion recipient. Adheres to all standard operating procedures (SOPs) during the collection of blood components to meet quality and safety requirements. Recruits and schedules blood donors for donation appointments. Career advancement opportunities exist including Phlebotomist II and Phlebotomist III positions.

Performs apheresis collections using specialized equipment and/or collects blood at mobile blood drive locations.

*Individuals hired to this position are required to complete 2 years in this position before becoming eligible to transfer to other positions within Mayo Clinic*

Qualifications

Donor Services Phlebotomist I

High School Diploma or equivalent and 3 months of phlebotomy experience OR a graduate of a phlebotomy training program that provides a clinical rotation. Customer service experience. Ability to have flexible day shift start and end times. Ability to effectively work independently and with multiple individuals including specialists, Phlebotomist II, and Phlebotomist III team members.

Internal applicants should attach their three most recent performance appraisals.

License or Certification:

Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS). Individuals without BCLS will be required to successfully complete the course within 6 months of employment.

*This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship with the exception of the TN visa classification; Also, Mayo Clinic DOES NOT participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program*

Donor Services Phlebotomist II

High School Diploma or equivalent and 6 months of phlebotomy experience OR currently employed as a Donor ServicePhlebotomist I for at least 3 months.

Customer service experience. Ability to have flexible day shift start and end times. Ability to effectively work independently and with multiple individuals including specialists and Phlebotomist III team members.

**Internal applicants should attach their three most recent performance appraisals.

License or Certification:

Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS). Individuals without BCLS will be required to successfully complete the course within 6 months of employment. A valid driver's license is preferred.
