Position description The Division Chair (Executive Director) of Strategy Planning leads the function of strategic planning across the Mayo Clinic enterprise. This position leads a team of strategy professionals are empowered with strategy to execution authority to achieve our 2030 vision for the enterprise and oversee performance of Mayo Clinic’s 2030 initiatives and capabilities. The Division of Strategy Planning represents an enterprise-wide strategic perspective in discussions and decisions and is accountable for advancing the strategic priorities of the organization.

The Division Chair is an experienced strategy professional and advisor who provides the thought leadership, strategic direction, and confidence to guide the strategic vision of the organization. This person must earn the trust and credibility of leadership and collaboratively build and execute actionable strategies. They will serve in an advisory role to clients on business strategy, operational effectiveness and healthcare best practices. The Division Chair interfaces with executive and business unit leadership to drive strategic planning, including the development of vision, mission, objectives, strategy and an execution plan.

The Strategy Planning team is accountable for all Board of Trustees, Board of Governors and Executive Leadership activities. The Division Chair will regularly interface with c-suite executives and leaders across the business in strategic visioning and planning, providing oversight of critical governance forums. Strategy Planning serves as stewards of the 2030 Bold. Forward. strategy and holds accountability for bringing the plan to life throughout the organization. The Division Chair serves as a champion for key enterprise initiatives and is integral in capital planning efforts. They will build a high performing team skilled in facilitating strategy sessions and conducting annual and long-term planning to help the organization realize its full potential.

Qualifications + Master’s degree in related field

  • Five years of people leadership experience

  • Ten years of healthcare experience in strategy, operations, or business planning

  • An understanding of healthcare globally, key market drivers, execution levers and opportunities to lead constructive market disruption.

  • Successful track record in people leadership, diverse talent development and team performance excellence. Proven ability to build and develop a high performing team.

  • Excellent communication, network and influencer skills, including the ability to work effectively in a collaborative matrix management environment.

  • Proven ability to build successful, collaborative relationships with highest levels of physician and administrative leadership, and to understand and strategically apply outcomes metrics.

  • Successful track record to work effectively in a complex, consensus environment that expects and promotes teamwork.

  • Proven ability to successfully undertake and execute multiple large and complex initiatives simultaneously.

  • Strong strategic judgment, commitment to continuous improvement and ability to influence change.

  • Must demonstrate ability to handle sensitive/confidential/proprietary information.

  • Strong executive presence and ability to represent Mayo Clinic externally as a thought leader.

Schedule details M-F, day shift. This position may work remotely 75% of the time, with an expectation of 25% on-campus work and/or business travel. The preference is for this individual to be located proximal to the Arizona, Florida or Rochester campus.
