Position description The Director, Strategic Initiatives will extend the reach of the Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) by serving as a face for Strategy and driving the agenda as a delegate of the CSO. The Director proactively assumes responsibility for leading and executing on strategic initiatives and projects, responding to requests and serving as a key contact with stakeholders. This position is responsible for working with the CSO to prioritize and focus on the highest level department priorities and is accountable for taking the lead in developing senior executive presentations and managing projects that will require collaborative work across the Department.

The Director builds relationships and collaborates with Strategy leadership to help lead the development of department strategy and bridge strategy to operations. Works collaboratively with internal resources as well as external partners. Champions culture change, including client value-centricity in all activities. Drives excellence in financial management, communication (verbal, written and presentations), business and strategic planning, performance monitoring and reporting. Effectively partners with the CSO to drive agendas, meetings, activities and communications. Ability to set and measure standards for performance in all areas of the department, periodically reviewing reports on programs.. Supports department, division and institutional projects, staff recruitment, policy implementation, and serves as a primary resource for issues and communications within the operations function. Develops, advances and executes projects/programs that leverage the agile methodology to enable Strategy to deliver incremental value and meet strategic objectives.

Additional Responsibilities Include:

Departmental Operations

• Leads the "Office of the CSO" to ensure a well-functioning Strategy Department

• Finance: serves as liaison for departmental budget and position control

• Human Resources: serves as liaison for Human Resources to onboard new talent, the development of training materials, assist in facilitating the departmental FTE review and approval, annual budget preparation, including data for analyzing, planning and allocation of resources, and change management

• Communications: Spearheads the development, communication and implementation of effective strategies and processes that support the operations of the department. Build bridges and drives optimal culture during conflict, challenge, and ambiguity.

Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree and 10 years of experience with a focus on strategy and operations is required.

Additional qualifications Must possess strong leadership, business, analytical, oral and written communication, presentation skills, and superior interpersonal skills to facilitate effective relationships both within and outside of Mayo Clinic; solid organizational and project management skills; strategic judgment; track record in building positive, cross-functional relationships. He/she must possess political savvy and the ability to function effectively in a complex and often ambiguous environment, with consensus-style operation that expects and promotes teamwork.

Must have experience managing and leading teams. Must be able to take business services from strategic consultation through tactical execution in a team setting and be able to develop key performance indicators/metrics to ensure success. Experience developing and executing business plans is important. This position requires someone who is a self-starter with ability to manage multiple priorities and with attention to detail. Will evaluate and improve upon existing processes and develop/implement new processes where appropriate. Meets deadlines with enthusiasm and confidence. Proactively identifies and mitigates risk with meticulous project planning and creative solutions. Must be able to garner trust and influence. Experience in driving change by influencing senior executives, making recommendations to drive growth or improve ROI, and/or leading implementation of process-based initiatives. High degree of competency in data, analytics, financial analysis and/or directly comparable quantitative skillset. Is a creative problem-solver and adapt at storytelling when reporting outcomes. Ability to work independently. Has a desire to learn and champion agile methodologies, including use of appropriate technologies and leading behavior change by example to create empowered, client-centered teams and solutions.

Hours / Pay period 80

Schedule details M-F, day shift. This position may work remotely 75% of the time, with an expectation of 25% on-campus work and/or business travel. The preference is for this individual to be located proximal to the Arizona, Florida or Rochester campus.

Weekend schedule As needed
