The Director, Clinical & Business Continuity position is responsible for leading efforts to build, develop, implement and maintain a sustainable comprehensive integrated continuity and resilience program. This includes: Developing and maintaining an enterprise-wide risk-based framework for identifying, assessing and mitigating a broad range of threats before they disrupt clinical and business operations. Building and managing strategic and collaborative relationships that interact with Mayo Clinic's Clinical & Business Continuity Management Program. Defining clinical and business continuity expectations, including Office of Clinical & Business Continuity roles, responsibilities and competencies. Developing policies, procedures and processes that ensure minimization of consequences associated with a disruption to operations. Supporting a standardized risk and impact evaluation methodology and risk control strategies across the enterprise. Integrating emergency management, security management (physical and information), IT technical/disaster recovery, and clinical/business continuity and recovery activities. Converting Clinical & Business Continuity Management Program goals and objectives into practical, actionable and cost-effective projects that support Mayo Clinic’s mission. Ensuring Mayo Clinic is meeting or exceeding industry standards for clinical/business continuity. Ensuring the integrity of compliance to policies and processes through regular operational audits, monitoring, exercises and reporting real event responses. Advising the Clinical & Business Continuity Management Program and Resilience Program sponsors and appropriate committees/leaders on programs, risks and mitigation strategies related to continuity of operations.
The incumbent will be considered a subject matter expert and is required to maintain a significant level of expertise and knowledge in the field of healthcare business continuity. The ideal candidate for this position has an in-depth knowledge of various continuity professional practices applied within the healthcare operational environment. Experience within large distributed/matrixed environments is essential. Must maintain strict confidentiality of information. This position will also be responsible for managing the Global Security – Clinical & Business Continuity Management work unit by developing and implementing operational and strategic plans, preparing and planning program budgets and expenses and hiring and developing staff.
A Bachelor’s Degree in Business Continuity, Organizational Resilience, Risk Management or related field with eight years of experience in business continuity or related program management and five years of experience in the field of operations-based business continuity is required. A Master’s Degree within two years of hire is required. Requires the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Must have demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to build rapport with a variety of people. Must have working knowledge of project management and quality improvement concepts and principles, with proven ability to work within complex projects, using agile methodologies. Must have working knowledge of PC and ability to use routine computer software packages (word processing, spreadsheets, and databases). Must be resourceful and willing to exercise personal initiative. Must have strong understanding of continuity professional practices, standards and regulations. Demonstrated ability to build effective, cohesive and collaborative team. Must have strong demonstrated ability to skillfully hire, develop, lead, motivate, performance manage, and coach a cross-section of professionals and managers. Healthcare management experience preferred.
Experience in a large academic medical center and the ability to work in a matrix organizational structure, working collaboratively in a diverse work environment. Thorough knowledge and understanding of healthcare accreditation and regulatory environment is preferred. Healthcare operations/management or healthcare clinical/business continuity experience.
License or certification
Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP), Master Business Continuity Professional (MBCP), Certified Healthcare Provider Continuity Professional (CHPCP), Certified Business Resilience Manager (CBRM) or equivalent required at time of hire.
