Position description

The Development Officer (DO) primarily focuses fundraising for gifts of $100K - $499K from benefactors that contribute to Mayo Clinic’s strategic and essential fundraising priorities. The DO will work with supervisor to develop fundraising strategies across the giving continuum and assess their effectiveness toward the Mayo Clinic strategic priorities. The DO will execute on fundraising strategies supported by their DO manager.

The DO will demonstrate a growing mastery of digital tools, including Artificial Intelligence, virtual and automation resources to direct work and assure information integrity. The DO will work with their supervisor and the Prospect Management team to identify philanthropic strategies and moves management for the majority of their portfolio. The DO will work with their supervisor to identify partners for cultivation and solicitation plans. The DO, with the support of their supervisor will appropriately leverage resources to successfully support benefactor relationships with Mayo Clinic (i.e. communication tools and resources, events, recognition, stewardship, etc…)

The DO will model behaviors after supervisor, peers, and team members. They will learn from conversations with mentors, clarifying understanding through questions about application of values to benefactor-centric fundraising practices. The DO will adopt a continuous learning mindset and address learning opportunities with supervisor, mentors, and peers. The DO will actively participate in diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. They will support activities that foster an inclusive environment. The DO will partner with supervisor to identify the best human and digital resources to support philanthropic engagement.

All fundraisers will exceed expectations and goals; demonstrate increasing self-awareness of strengths and learning opportunities; and work to their highest skill-set level. Development professionals at Mayo Clinic are required to adhere to the "Donor Bill of Rights" and ethical standards set forth for the department and the institution.

Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree is required.

Requires three years' experience in identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of benefactors; OR three years of experience serving in a strategic advisory role to individuals, corporations, or foundations in the financial, accounting, legal and/or trust and estate industries. Must have a demonstrated track record of success in fundraising or have equivalent experience in comparable industry position(s).

This position requires the flexibility to work weekends and evenings when necessary.

Incumbent must be a self-motivated, self- directed and highly organized individual who will promote a productive, inclusive, and collegial workplace and be a professional ambassador for Mayo Clinic. Belief in the mission and strong ethical conduct is essential. Must have demonstrated experience showing one’s adaptability, flexibility, and agile mindset for change.

A valid driver's license and a good driving record are required, along with the ability to travel extensively on all forms of major public transportation.

Additional qualifications

A Master's degree is preferred.

Experience using human+digital tools and resources as part of fundraising strategies is desired.

Compensation Detail

Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum salary every 2 weeks is approx $3096, based on a full-time position.

Schedule details

The DO will be responsible for covering a territory within the Central Region of the U.S., primarily Illinois and Michigan, and may be located in Illinois, Michigan or Minnesota. 30-40% travel will be required.

Weekend schedule There may be occasional weekend commitments.
