Responsibilities

Work unit test developer/innovator who develops, innovates, evaluates, and implements novel/new tests, methodologies, technologies, or products for the laboratory under the intellectual and scientific guidance of laboratory directors, principal developers, and senior developers. Responsible for improvement of existing methods or implementation of novel technology of proven validity within the work unit. Organizes new method validation data, prepares data for publication and peer review, and participates in formal presentations.

*Individuals hired to this position are required to complete 2 years in this position before becoming eligible to apply to other positions within Mayo Clinic.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory science (CLS/MLS), medical technology (MT), chemistry, biological science from an accredited institution, or bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in addition to a certificate in MLS. In histopathology or non-testing laboratories, a bachelor's degree with laboratory certification if applicable. Two years' relevant laboratory experience required. A HEW certificate may be substituted for the specified degree. Other clinical laboratory specialty certificates will be reviewed and approved on a case-by-case basis. Master's degree from an accredited institution in chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science or medical technology or Doctoral degree (PhD) in chemistry or a biological science preferred. Self-motivated, highly organized, efficient, and able to work independently exercising strong decision-making skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary. Capable of reproducing a reference method using available procedures without supervision. Demonstrated analytical and scientific competency with development and/or validation of lab techniques or procedures. Experience with data collection, organization, analysis and delivery of information. ASCP or other certification pertinent to the laboratory field may be required depending on the laboratory specialty and prevailing regulatory requirements.

Additional Qualifications

  • Experience using Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) is preferred.

  • Experience in validating clinical diagnostic tests.

  • Attention to detail, organized, and excellent documentation skills

  • Experience with a variety of analytical techniques and methodologies.

  • Aptitude for scientific writing.

  • Team-oriented and open to the ideas and suggestions from others to solve complex issues.

$68,411.20 - $102,731.20 per year; Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.
