Responsibilities

Addiction treatment services within the Department of Psychiatry and Psychology at Mayo Clinic is seeking a doctoral-level psychologist to join our team to innovate and advance the evidence-based care of substance use disorders (SUDs). This Clinical Director leadership position will be primarily responsible for invigorating program development and redesign, including training multidisciplinary team members in cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and relapse prevention for group and individual SUD services. The ideal candidate will be interested in leading research endeavors and engaging in collaborative research with accomplished investigators in addiction science both within and outside of the Mayo Clinic. Addiction services include our innovative, 30-day intensive program, outpatient group treatment programs, transplant services, and continuing care programs to assist with extended recovery and relapse prevention. The Mayo model of care involves a multi-disciplinary team offering evidenced-based biologic and psychosocial treatments in a patient-focused, highly professional, and compassionate environment.

The psychologist will join a multi-disciplinary team consisting of licensed alcohol & drug counselors, addictions psychiatrists, nursing, and licensed professional clinical counselors. Designing and implementing evidence-based practices while training the multidisciplinary staff in fidelity to these interventions are core features of this position. Active collaboration across team members is emphasized, including both formal and informal meetings to coordinate patient care. Additionally, there are opportunities to collaborate with other psychologists within and beyond SUD services, as well as partnerships with programs in the department and across the institution. As an academic institution, active engagement in research and education is expected and supported in this role. Ample internal opportunities exist to expand research activities depending on interests and pursuit of external grants is highly encouraged. Education/supervision opportunities are abundant with students, residents, and fellows of a variety of disciplines, including psychology postdoctoral fellows. Furthermore, the psychologist will team with other members of the Addictions division in planning Mayo Clinic’s annual continuing education event, Frontiers in Addiction course. The position carries an academic appointment in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine, a rank commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

Candidates must be eligible for licensure in the state of Minnesota and be Board-certified/Board-eligible through the American Board of Professional Psychology. Requirements for the position include completion of an APA- or CPA- accredited doctoral program (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) and internship. Experience in intensive addiction programs is preferred, but not required. Applicants should demonstrate a strong interest in multidisciplinary clinical, educational, and research collaboration alongside excellent interpersonal communication and leadership abilities.
