Responsibilities

The Mayo Clinic Administrative Fellowship Program is a prestigious two-year program designed as a fast track to transition top graduate students and recent graduates into leadership positions through focused mentoring and stretch assignments. Administrative Fellows will gain practical experience through direct exposure to and active participation in a variety of administrative activities in preparation for leadership opportunities within Mayo Clinic. Individual participants will make significant contributions to administrative, operational, and strategic work throughout the organization. Fellows will partner with team members by fostering an inclusive work environment and respecting others with different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. The program consists of core rotations in areas such as Practice Administration, Education Administration, Research Administration, Finance, Strategy, and Human Resources. Additionally, fellows participate in elective rotations that are tailored to their professional goals, skillsets, interests, and organizational need.

Opportunities for placement include Phoenix/Scottsdale, Arizona (https://www.mayoclinic.org/patient-visitor-guide/arizona) ; Jacksonville, Florida (https://www.mayoclinic.org/patient-visitor-guide/florida) ; Rochester, Minnesota (https://www.mayoclinic.org/patient-visitor-guide/minnesota) ; or the Mayo Clinic Health System including: Eau Claire (https://www.mayoclinichealthsystem.org/locations/eau-claire) , La Crosse (https://www.mayoclinichealthsystem.org/locations/la-crosse) , Wisconsin or Mankato (https://www.mayoclinichealthsystem.org/locations/mankato) , Minnesota. Administrative Fellows will be assigned to a primary location and may have the opportunity to complete a 12 week offsite rotational experience to another location during the fellowship. During the selection process, candidates will be asked to rank order their preferred site locations for their fellowship placement. As part of preparation, candidates are strongly encouraged to review information on our Mayo Clinic site locations (https://www.mayoclinic.org/locations) .

Additionally, candidates will be asked to rank their preferred focus area for their fellowship experience on the application form. Focus areas include Destination Medical Center, Community and Rural Health or Research.

Our selection process aims to attract external talent who possess diverse skill sets, backgrounds, work experiences, and interests. Please note that as part of our selection process, virtual first round interviews will be extended to candidates selected to advance in consideration for our fellowship positions. Candidates selected for the final round will need to attend interviews in person in Rochester, Minnesota on September 30, 2024, October 1, 2024 or October 2, 2024.

Qualifications

• Master's degree (M.B.A., M.H.A., M.H.S.A. or related field) or be a degree candidate who is on schedule to complete the master degree before the fellowship start date in July 2023 or master degree classes completed and degree to be awarded upon completion of an administrative fellowship appointment. 

• Candidates with a master's degree from a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME) are preferred; candidates from non-CAHME programs are accepted for review.

• Health care industry experience such as internship, externship, fellowship or applicable employment required.

• Possess broad knowledge of current and historical perspectives on health care business management and administration, clinical practice management, clinical research and education, hospital administration and management, finance, human resources and organizational development, information systems, and managed care.

This program has a 2-year duration.  External applicants are preferred along with those that have completed internships in healthcare administration.
