Job Summary

Dominion Energy has multiple vacancies for Engineer I/II/II or Engineering Technical Specialist I/II/III in our Electric Distribution Standards team. Job responsibilities may include maintaining our distribution construction manuals and/or assigned a material group to manage. Successful candidate will be fully competent in electrical and mechanical engineering concepts. Need full understanding of how electric distribution system is built and maintained. Understand how various voltages are used to serve industrial, commercial, and residential customers. Previous design or construction experience is preferred. They will be responsible to read, understand and apply various codes and guidelines that the distribution system is required to comply with. This would include National electric code, National electric and safety code, Occupational safety and health administration, and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers codes.

This position is responsible for sourcing materials from vendors that meet our applications, test these materials, and visit manufacturing facilities to approve the facility. Once products are approved, the engineer will facilitate and present application of new product with design and field crews. This position also is responsible for root cause analysis for any material failures within their area of responsibility. Position will communicate with various groups within our company, including Design, Operations, Construction, Supply Chain, Asset Management, and Safety and Training. They will also join working groups as active committee members for the Southern Electric Exchange, Electric Power Research Institute, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and Illuminating Engineering Society.

This position has the potential to convert to a 3/2 hybrid schedule (3 days in, 2 days out) upon completion of manager satisfactory based training

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Engineer I = Less than 3 years of relevant engineering experience

Engineer II = 3+ years of relevant engineering experience.

Engineer III = 5+ years of relevant engineering experience.

Engineering Technical Specialist I = Less than 3 years of relevant technical experience.

Engineering Technical Specialist II = 3+ years of relevant technical experience.

Engineering Technical Specialist III = 5+ years of relevant technical experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Ability and Experience for all roles and levels:

Knowledge and application of engineering theories and principles, concepts, and fundamentals.

Requires developmental experience in a professional engineering position (engineering title only).

Competency in applying engineering principles, fundamental concepts, practices and procedures requiring some evaluation, originality and/or ingenuity to achieve project objectives.

Understands and can apply knowledge of configuration management.

Planning, organizational and project management skills.

Ability to develop and exercise leadership skills.

Effective decision making skills.

Effective oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing).

Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems.

Ability to interpret codes, regulations and practices.

Full knowledge of engineering theories and principles

Education Requirements

Education Level for Engineer : Bachelor's Degree in Engineering required.

Required Engineering Criteria:

For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met:

• Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

• Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or

• Possess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

• Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license

Required Engineering Criteria for Engineering Technical Specialist: Preferred Bachelor degree's

In order to be a titled Engineering Technical Specialist, you must meet one of the following criteria:

• 4-year Engineering Technology degree or 4-year degree in Engineering (not ABET-accredited); or

• 4-year degree in Physics, Math, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Engineering or other technical related discipline; or

• 4-year non-technical degree and post-graduate degree in Engineering Technology or Engineering (not ABET-accredited); or

• Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred degree

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

Depending on functional responsibilities and location of position must review ANS 3.1 12/79, ANSI N18.1-1971 or ANSI/ANS 3.1-1993 and DOM-QA-1 as appropriate.
