The Department of Corrections is hiring a Social Studies Teacher at the Red Wing Facility. This position will:

  • Provide instruction in a well managed and comprehensive instructional environment,

  • Develop and support Personal Education Plans.

  • Develop curriculum and integrate methods of instruction to serve all types of learning styles in a high school classroom.

  • Assess, monitor, and record offender progress and to direct resources to promote effective student learning

This position will have direct contact with incarcerated students.

Minimum Qualifications

To be qualified for and considered for this position, applicants must meet all of the minimum qualifications listed below.   • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college/university.

AND

  • Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Professional Minnesota teaching license. *An applicant with a Tier 1 license may be considered if the DOC is unable to recruit an applicant with a Tier 2, 3, or 4 teaching license in the specific licensure field required. Preferred Qualifications

The following qualifications are strongly desired of applicants seeking consideration for this position:

  • Possession of a current Minnesota Tier 3 or 4 teaching license.

  • Experience working in an education setting.

  • Experience working in a correctional setting.

  • Full-time teaching experience as a licensed teacher.

Physical Requirements

Additional Requirements

The selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. Top candidate(s) must pass a criminal history check which includes successful completion of all sentencing and/or restitution requirements of law enforcement jurisdictions, including probation.

Employment history/reference checks, including incidents of sexual harassment, will also be conducted on the top candidate(s) in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. This may include a review of job performance and discipline records.

New employees will be fingerprinted within the first 30 days of employment.
