The Department of Corrections is looking to hire the Principal for the Walter Maginnis High School at our Red Wing Facility. This position will provide academic leadership, management, evaluation, and administration for the achievement of successful teaching and learning through faculty and support staff. They will participate in academic and other DOC statewide meetings; collaborate with department-wide education supervisors and the central office Education administration to plan and develop new program initiatives as well as redesign existing course curriculum; examine and implement policies and procedures to enhance effective and efficient administration.

This position will have direct contact with incarcerated students.

Minimum Qualifications

To be qualified for and considered for this position, ensure that your resume contains descriptions of your work experiences sufficient for comparison against the requirements stated below and indicate the beginning and ending month and year for each job held.

  • Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Minnesota K-12 Principal license.

  • Three years of teaching experience.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience. Leadership experience can include experience as a supervisor, lead worker, team lead, project lead, or completion of a State of Minnesota Leadership program (e.g. ELI or SLI), or comparable leadership program.

Preferred Qualifications

The following qualifications are strongly desired of applicants seeking consideration for this position:

  • Bachelor or Master's degree in Education or related

  • Possession of a valid Minnesota K-12 Principal license

  • Possession of a valid Minnesota Administrative license

  • Experiencing designing and implementing successful programming and academic activity positively impacting student results and outcomes in urban or First Nation/Reservation, and/or Cultural Education settings

  • Administrative leadership experience in a higher education setting

  • Experience guiding and counseling individuals and groups of students through the development of educational and career plans

  • Experience supervising educational staff

  • Experience coordinating data management activity and reporting for academic and operational outcomes reporting for various stakeholder groups

  • Experience developing training curriculum for professional educators

Physical Requirements

Additional Requirements

The selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. Top candidate(s) must pass a criminal history check which includes successful completion of all sentencing and/or restitution requirements of law enforcement jurisdictions, including probation.

Employment history/reference checks, including incidents of sexual harassment, will also be conducted on the top candidate(s) in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. This may include a review of job performance and discipline records.
