Since 1996, the CUNY Language Immersion Program (CLIP) has provided intensive English language instruction at LaGuardia Community College for immigrant students who have been accepted to CUNY and need to improve their academic English language proficiency in preparation for college coursework. CLIP uses a sustained content-based approach with coursework centered on a theme and core texts. Instruction is designed to increase students? English language skills as they broaden their overall background knowledge in topics that will prepare them for general education courses at CUNY. Program staff and instructors support students with ?college knowledge,? including submitting outstanding documents to the Admissions Office, applying for financial aid and scholarships, and connecting academic majors to career trajectories. Classes meet 25 hours a week in day and evening sessions. Program operations, including classes, are offered fully in-person. Reporting to the CUNY Language Immersion Program Director, the Assistant Director?s duties include but are not limited to: Assists with daily program operations in collaboration with the director and office staff; Oversees student data inputting and overall office recordkeeping; Assists with student recruitment, orientation, and placement testing; Monitors student enrollment, attendance, and retention; Refers students to needed services on-campus (e.g., LaGuardia CARES, the Wellness Center, the Neurodiversity Program, etc.) and in the community as needed; Facilitates students? exit from the program and matriculation to academic degree programs at LaGuardia and other CUNY campuses; Prepares analytical and statistical reports as required by the Division of Adult and Continuing Education, College Management, and the CUNY Office of Academic Affairs; Oversees updates to the program?s webpage and creates print materials; Represents the program in outreach events and meetings with the CUNY Office of Academic Affairs and College offices as needed; Collaborates in activities that foster continuous program improvement and development; Supervises department budget and related matters in the absence of the Director; Ensures compliance with diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives on campus; Some evenings hours required. QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's Degree and four years' relevant experience required. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS MA in Applied Linguistics, TESOL, Higher Education Administration, or related field strongly preferred. Four years of experience working with adult English language learners in a higher education setting Knowledge of college and career pathway transition options, barriers, and supports for adult English language learners Excellent oral and written communication skills Excellent customer service and problem-solving skills Ability to work with diverse constituencies Prior CLIP, supervisory, or adult education program administration experience helpful CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW Participates in the daily coordination of academic and administrative activities of a College's specialized academic program under management direction. Supports program development, student service delivery, outcome evaluation and instructor/student recruitment, enrollment, and retention. Recommends, implements and evaluates strategies to expand program offerings Prepares analytical and statistical reports for management Develops and maintains relationships with various College offices to improve student and faculty services Serves as resource expert regarding program policies and procedures Oversees office recordkeeping; manages updates of program web and print materials May supervise office operations and/or department budget Performs related duties as assigned.
