Position Summary and Responsibilities Reporting to the Director of Sustainability, the Sustainability Fellow supports education and research in sustainability and serves as a liaison between students, faculty, and the Director of Sustainability. This is a full-time, one-year position with the possibility of renewal for a second year. Responsibilities Under the Director of Sustainability's guidance and supervision: Assist faculty in the implementation of sustainability modules in their courses and related student independent projects. Assist faculty in the development of course content that engages aspects of sustainability, with a particular focus on the campus/local community as a laboratory. Assist faculty and students carrying out climate change related research as it relates to Vassar's sustainability goals by providing relevant available data. Collect and visualize campus sustainability data for use in classes, student projects, research and by the Office of Sustainability. Assist the Director of Sustainability in mentoring sustainability interns working on campus focused projects (waste audits, mapping, energy metering, etc.). Develop a data base of student projects related to sustainability that can be used as a resource for teaching/research by faculty and students. Serve as a liaison between the Office of Sustainability and student organizations that may be interested in learning more about implementing sustainability practices on campus (e.g. composting, waste reduction, sourcing locally, etc.). In partnership with other stakeholders, assist in the dissemination of Vassar's sustainability efforts with a broad audience, including alumnae/i. Under the direction of the instructor for the course, serve as the laboratory assistant for Environmental Studies 124, Essentials of Environmental Science, and help facilitate class projects that address goals in the college's climate action plan. Qualifications Bachelors degree with a focus in environmental studies, environmental science, earth science, economics, biology, chemistry, engineering, political science or a related field A record of engagement with issues associated with sustainability/climate change, preferably in a higher education A commitment to furthering education and action in sustainability, broadly defined Ability to work with a broad array of stakeholders with various degrees of knowledge of sustainability. Strong listening, facilitation, and communication skills. Self-starter willing to take initiative, work independently, and manage through uncertainty.
