Position Summary and Responsibilities Following a five-year campus-wide Engaged Pluralism Initiative that centered on inclusion and equity in both the curriculum and in campus life, Vassar College seeks to fill a new position: Director of Inclusive Pedagogy. Working with the Faculty Director of Teaching Development, the Director of the Writing Center, the Director of the Quantitative Reasoning Center, and the Director of Engaged Pluralism, the Director of Inclusive Pedagogy will bring together faculty, students, and administrators to support inclusive excellence in teaching and learning, and to develop and maintain collaborative work that supports inclusive pedagogical practices and enriches student learning. The Director of Inclusive Pedagogy reports to the Associate Dean of the Faculty. Faculty-facing: 40% Work with the Faculty Director of Teaching Development to develop and provide ongoing faculty pedagogical workshops that encourage faculty to explore a variety of modes of teaching that focus on practices of inclusive pedagogy. Consult with individual faculty about teaching development and pedagogy innovation. Develop, curate, and maintain faculty teaching development resources. Help to develop a pilot of a peer observation classroom visit program. Student-facing: 40% Advise and help coordinate the student-led Student Teacher Engaged Pedagogy Partnership (STEPP) program. Develop and manage a student-to-student peer-tutoring program that offers core study skills, such as time management, to enable students to successfully engage with their academic work. May teach up to one class each academic year. Campus-wide Collaboration: 20% Support ongoing, college-wide work to advance inclusion and equity, working with the Director of Engaged Pluralism, and colleagues in the Dean of the College Office, Human Resources, the Office of Accessibility and Educational Opportunity, and the Dean of the Faculty Office. Collaborate with the Dean of Studies on sustaining a robust faculty program for student advising. Serve on relevant committees and working groups, such as the Committee on Inclusion and Equity, and the Inclusive Pedagogies and Curriculum Development Working Group. Work with faculty and administrators to understand dynamic faculty needs around inclusive pedagogy and teaching development; develop medium and long-term plans for pedagogy workshops. Qualifications Required Skills and Experience Masters degree in an academic field related to inclusive pedagogy. Strong knowledge of current and emerging research-supported best practices in the scholarship of teaching and learning, assessment, and faculty mentoring. At least four years of experience in a higher education setting, with at least two years of prior leadership experience in faculty teaching development, including leading trainings and workshops for faculty. Understand the work of inclusive pedagogy in relation to broader institutional efforts in toward equity and engaged pluralism. Demonstrated excitement to work in a diverse, dynamic, challenging environment and be invigorated by innovation. A strong foundation in applying a social justice and equity theoretical framework to all aspects of program design, implementation, and evaluation Strong communication and interpersonal skills; experience with collaborative work and shared leadership models Familiarity with Accessibility/Universal Design for Learning, Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 Preferred Qualifications PhD preferred Experience with curriculum design Research experience in the scholarship of teaching and learning Special Instructions to Applicants To complete your on-line application, you will be required to attach your resume, cover letter, and contact information for 3 professional references.
