Job Purpose and Impact
The Senior Biochemical Engineer will conduct complex research on fermentation, enzyme applications and other bioscience areas with a focus on development of new bioprocesses and optimization of existing processes. This role also will interact closely with Lab Data Management (LDM) teams with the intent of building tools to enter, transfer, visualize, and analyze lab data to enable improvements in bioprocess technology.
Contribute to the development of a LDM (Lab Data Management) system.
Compile, analyze, and interpret experimental data and report results to key stakeholders including drawing substantive conclusions and proposing insightful follow-on work.
Complete initial scoping on a project including literature reviews and intellectual property position.
Create technical work plans for complex fermentation experiments individually or as part of a team.
Conduct fermentation experiments with a high level of excellence to ensure precise and accurate data.
Prepare technical reports and presentations to communicate experimental outcomes and well-reasoned recommendations for future work.
Collaborate with commercial fermentation facilities to support troubleshooting or evaluate and implement new process technology.
Independently handle complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating only the most complex issues to appropriate staff.
Other duties as assigned
Bachelor’s degree in a related field OR equivalent years of experience
Minimum of four years of related work experience
Application of Python or other tools applied to advanced data analytics and modeling.
Hands on experience with lab scale fermentation equipment, microbial techniques, math and quantification skills and strain maintenance
Knowledge of fermentation principles relevant to bioprocess development
Knowledge and application of microbial physiology
Master's degree or other post-secondary degree in biochemical engineering, chemical engineering, industrial microbiology, or biochemistry
Experience with pilot scale fermentation equipment
Experience working on projects where strong analytical thinking is required.
Confirmed data analysis skills
