Enterprise Technology Infrastructure, Platforms & Services (ETIPS) delivers services and operational support to meet business integration objectives. Architecture leadership to provide scalable, secure, and highly available infrastructure solutions to meet care delivery business needs and enable future business growth.

As the Principal Cloud Security Architect you will monitor, evaluate, and maintain systems and procedures to safeguard internal information systems, networks, databases, and Web-based security. Conduct vulnerability assessments and monitor systems, network, databases and web for potential system breaches. You will respond to alerts from information security tools and report, investigate, and resolve security incidents. Additionally, you will recommend and implement changes to enhance systems security and prevent unauthorized access including researching security trends, new methods, and techniques used in unauthorized access of data in order to preemptively eliminate the possibility of system breach. Responsibilities could involve overseeing internal or external systems security (i.e., cloud services) and ensure that customers and users have the right access to the right systems at the right times.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Some on-call and irregular work hours may be required

  • Support team leads and Subject Matter Expert (SME) for approaches, procedures, and implementation of perimeter firewalls

  • Troubleshoot issues in highly complex, technical situations within an enterprise organization

  • Transition core entities from hardware/data centers to Optum supported technology in cloud

  • Develop perimeter security / firewall architecture to protect cloud and on-prem assets

  • Create infrastructure as code in support of newly entities transition to cloud

  • Identify and implement workload optimization in AWS, Azure and GCP

  • Participate in incident response for supported cloud projects

  • Train and educate team members to become self-sufficient in public cloud

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree or 6+ years of networking, security, or cloud development experience

  • 2+ years of experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP

  • 2+ years of experience with Terraform

  • 2+ years of experience with DevOps

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Cloud Certifications (AWS, Azure, GCP), CCSP

  • Terraform Certification

  • Palo Alto Certifications

  • Work experience as a cloud developer, architect, or systems administrator

  • Proven solid planning and problem-solving skills

  • Proven ability to troubleshoot in highly complex, technical situations within a matrixed organization

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
