Who we’re looking for

Toyota’s Quality Lab is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Sr. Technician.

The primary responsibility of this role is to evaluate parts and materials to specified standards, the requestor’s experience, and/or usage criteria.

Reporting to the Quality Lab Supervisor, the person in this role will support the Product Quality and Technical Evaluation objectives to support new requests for product evaluations in support of Inspection Control Function and New Model Product launch quality assurance activities.

What you’ll be doing

  • Translate test requests into actual sample prep, equipment set up, data collection, and reporting.

  • Conduct part and material evaluations to ensure the results meet the expectations of the requesting group.

  • Maintain, comply with, and support Lab Safety requirements and workplace organization standards.

  • Utilize standardized work methods and machine operating procedures to conduct evaluations.

  • Identify and communicate abnormalities in processes, people, and information.

  • Writing or revising standardized work methods and machine operating procedures

  • Support lab equipment general maintenance, preventative maintenance, and calibration.

  • Subject Matter Test Expert in the assigned area capable of training others to perform evaluations and operate test equipment.

  • Actively lead/initiate problem-solving activities to identify root cause, countermeasure and prevent reoccurrence.

What you bring

  • Associate degree (or higher) or equivalent work experience in an automotive component or material evaluation laboratory.

  • Experience within a test lab environment focused on automotive components for more than 1 year.

  • Demonstrated ability to interact with Engineering as well as other technical support groups.

  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Outlook.

  • Experience operating environmental chambers or sensitive analytical equipment.

  • Experience using technical standards and reading drawings to complete evaluations.

  • Ability to recognize and resolve testing and equipment issues before, during, and after evaluations.

  • This position requires driving. A motor vehicle record that’s acceptable by company standards is required for this position.

Added bonus if you have

  • Vehicle interior build or repair experience of more than 1 year.

  • Ability to write ladder logic and/or wire simple DC circuits.

  • IPC-A-610 CIS certification in the last 5 years.

  • X-Ray / CT Scanning experience.

  • Material or Chemistry analytical lab experience.

  • Welding, Sheet Steel, Sealers, Resin, Paint, or Fastner mechanical properties evaluation methods and equipment.

  • Familiarity with OES, SEM, EPMA, and Carbon Sulfur equipment.

  • Dynamometer Operation Experience.

  • Automotive experience with an emphasis on gear ratios.

  • Machine Shop experience.
