Who we’re looking for

Toyota’s Product Planning and Strategy team is looking for a passionate and motivated Senior Manager, Concept Planning, in our Advanced Product Strategy group to support our development of new model product concepts from beginning to end.

Reporting to the General Manager of Advanced Product Strategy, this person will advise Toyota Motor North America executives on product line extensions, mobility product opportunities and other new business opportunities including all necessary product attributes, market potential and business case analysis.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead team of concept managers and planners to develop new model product concepts across all Toyota and Lexus segments (including cars, SUVs, and trucks), as well as new and emerging mobility product categories.

  • Identify target customers, clarify needs & use cases, and define product attributes, including size, powertrain, design direction, and unique selling features.

  • Support business cases for necessary investments including sales volume forecast and pricing approach.

  • Inspire, train, and hire for two concept planning teams to handle high-pressure and challenging deadlines for deliverables.

  • Expose and train staff on concept planning processes and advanced analytical techniques, as well as business plan development.

  • Conduct direct customer research to identify new market opportunities for both retail and commercial customers

  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders to assist with rapid collaboration, data/analytical work, problem definition, and solution generation.

  • Present product strategy and concepts to executive management.

  • Negotiate with Chief Engineers/R&D, styling departments, and global planning teams to deliver on product concept.

  • Provide thought leadership as an experienced industry SME on new and emerging product categories.

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience

  • Progressive experience in the automotive industry specific to product development and customers habits

  • Strong analytical skills and familiarity with research methods (both qualitative and quantitative) and relevant market databases

  • Strategic and creative mindset with advanced ability to tell a compelling story

  • Familiarity with long-term mobility customer, market, and technology trends

  • Prior experience managing staff (ideally 6+), with demonstrated project leadership and management skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work across departmental divides to achieve goals
