Position Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to support a broad range of actuarial functions across the Aetna Student Health business line. In this Sr. Manager level role, the ideal candidate will be a motivated, self-starter able to influence and prioritize initiatives and work independently. You will support all Student Health filings, forecasting, reserving, actuarial studies, Excel based pricing tools, and provide assistance with external customer/broker utilization reviews. You will collaborate with your teammates and leader to divide responsibilities to optimize team development opportunities without overburdening any team member.

The candidate must possess a high-degree of professionalism and demonstrate skill and comfort level in establishing/cultivating subject matter expertise across the enterprise to enhance a culture of collaboration, facilitate cross-business conversations to support alignment on work, and deliver business analysis and insights enhance business decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • This position is responsible for rate development and filings for the Student Health line of business across all states and product types

  • Select rating assumptions, support case-specific underwriting, and provide pricing for new plan variations

  • Coordinate the pricing and filing work required for multiple states

  • Cultivate relationships with local regulators and negotiate terms of rate filings and approvals; communicate both proactively and in response to objections

  • Forecast results and monitor financial performance

  • Assist in evaluating Mental Health Parity testing for Student Health

  • Navigate several data points and rationalize recommended course of action, recognizing risks and opportunities. Work with different areas to understand those data points

  • Set and manage own priorities to meet pre-established deadlines; act independently with limited guidance from supervisor

  • Excellent verbal and written communication to various audiences to establish strong relationships and to effectively convey observations and recommendations

  • Participate in the broader Aetna Student Health team and foster a team environment of trust and collaboration

  • Act as a strategic partner to multiple business partners (Segment Management, Network, Contracting, Product, Finance, Compliance, Market Actuaries, External Consultants) to achieve pricing and product objectives and profitability and membership goals

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years actuarial (mathematics, statistics, and financial theory within healthcare) experience

  • ASA/FSA Credential, Ability to sign legal attestation as a credentialed actuary

  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel

  • Ability to work with large and detailed data sets; SAS

  • Strong communication skills and comfort with presenting data directly to external parties

  • Solid technical/analytical skills and attention to detail

  • Partner well with cross-functional teams and seeks to develop a culture of innovation, excellence, and openness

  • Mastery of problem solving and decision-making skills

  • Operates with a growth mindset (agility and developing yourself and others)

Preferred Qualifications

• Some minimal travel may be required

Education

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$75,400.00 - $182,549.40

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
