As a Manager, System Engineering, you will provide leadership in the implementation of system engineering practice required for the system design of the Telesat Lightspeed constellation. Using Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) methodologies, you will lead a team of systems engineers conducting a wide range of activities from requirement management, technical budgets, technical analyses and reports, in support of the design effort. In this function, you will interact with the integration and test, and the verification teams. You will also work very closely with the leaders of all segments of the system to ensure the delivery of a state-of-the-art constellation.
Role responsibilities:
Manage a team of system engineering staff of various level of experience. Mentor and guide them to align their tasks to the program objectives.
Bring expert level experience in conducting communication systems engineering activities the definition of system level requirements, concept of operations (CONOPS), and performance assessment.
Lead the management of requirements, interface definitions, flow down and traceability as applicable to all segments (space and ground).
Lead team for the implementation of Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) model of the Lightspeed system using the Capella tool.
Lead the development of system budgets for the overall system such as availability, link budgets,
Work with Lightspeed Architecture committee to align system engineering activities with the priorities of the development of the details of the architecture.
Support the definition concept of operations for all phases of the functional requirements, including for example the user terminal commissioning, network entry, satellite handovers, time synchronization, adaptive coding and modulation (ACM) among others.
Prepared and hold internal System design reviews such as System requirement Review (SRR), Preliminary Design Review (PDR) and Critical Design Review (CDR).
Collaborate with the Integration and Test group to plan proper validation of the requirements to ensure appropriate system performance.
Attend segment design reviews and support the preparation of feedback to segment design review material.
Attend Delivery Review Board (DRB) at the and represent systems engineering in the context of reviewing acceptability of the system performance and contribute to concluding with proper disposition of any reported non-conformances.
Responsible of the quality of the work and documentation produced by the team.
Education and Experience required:
B. Sc. in Electrical, Computer or System Engineering and a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in satellite communications or other large communication systems.
Good experience in system design, requirement management and communication systems performance assessments
Good understanding of architecture of large communication systems in terms of management and control planes.
Specialized knowledge and Skills:
Experience performing analysis and simulation of communication systems.
Knowledge of layer 2 transport network and the Metro Ethernet Standard (Carrier Ethernet)
Knowledge of DVB standards such as DVB-S2X and DVB-RCS2 standard is an asset
Highly collaborative team-player who can quickly earn the confidence of co-workers and teammates.
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with management, engineering teams and partners / suppliers.
Experience with business considerations and practical limitations related to system design and implementation.
Ability to prioritize opportunities, needs and resources.
Fluent in English, written and oral.
The successful candidate must be able to work in Canada and obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods program (CGP)
