Job Description

As a Flight Dynamics Analyst, the incumbent will work as part of a small team of dedicated professionals to perform satellite stationkeeping, orbit determination, and momentum control in support of Telesat and its customer satellite operations programs. The role involves developing and implementing automated tools for maneuver upload, execution and monitoring, and analyses of related topics.

Main Responsibilities:

· Plan satellite maneuvers to meet stationkeeping requirements using Telesat’s Flight Dynamics System while minimizing fuel usage.

· Monitor and maintain orbit determination and maneuver reconstruction processes.

· Monitor fuel usage and maneuver performance.

· Plan and monitor relocation campaigns to move satellites from one station longitude to another.

· Develop software procedures for use by the Satellite Control Centre for the purpose of maneuver upload, execution and monitoring along with other orbit, attitude and momentum control related tasks.

· Oversee execution of satellite maneuvers as required to ensure success, which can occur off-hours or on weekends.

· Participate in Transfer Orbit Service (TOS) programs as required, performing orbit determination and generating tracking predicts.

· Prepare and present reports for Telesat and its customers.

· Develop stationkeeping strategies and review plans collaboratively.

· May lead development teams in the management of Flight Dynamics related preparations for new satellite programs or initiatives.

· Participate in development projects in collaboration with Satellite Engineers and Systems Software to implement timely and effective procedures for new programs or in response to satellite anomalies.

· Provide technical guidance to other analysts.

Education, Experience and Skills Required

· Masters or Bachelor degree in Applied Mathematics, Physics, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or the equivalent.

· Strong background in statistics, calculus, orbital mechanics, and computer programming (shell and Python scripting is preferred).

· Experience in satellite stationkeeping planning would be an asset.

· Experience in developing software and with a variety of platforms and programming tools: shell and Python scripting are assets but other operational languages will be used. The ability to learn new tools is critical.

· Experience with Linux systems administration and configuration management would be an asset.

· Strong technical, presentation, interpersonal, written and communication skills.

· Independent and self-motivated, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

· Work requires considerable attention to detail.

Equipment Used

· A variety of computer platforms (Linux and Windows), proprietary control software.

· Laptop computers for secure remote access.

· Standard office equipment.

Working Conditions:

· Office environment.

· Occasional off-hours work required for testing and emergency response; on-call support through nights and weekends with remote access.

The successful candidate must be able to work in Canada and obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods program (CGP).
