Responsibilities

  • People management of OBPSW developers and testers.

  • Develop and present project status reports, highlighting accomplishments, challenges, and risks. Strategize and implement risk mitigation strategies to ensure successful team outcomes.

  • Drive and support automation initiatives and champion quality assurance practices to enhance product reliability.

  • Organize team-building events, workshops, and knowledge-sharing sessions to foster team cohesion and professional growth

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to the team members, ensuring that best practices are followed, and technical challenges are effectively addressed.

  • Uphold and promote the company's culture, values, and standards within the team. Create an inclusive and positive working environment where every team member can thrive.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 10 years of management experience in a software development environment with an embedded software focus.

  • Proven leadership skills with a track record of building and managing successful software development teams.

  • Highly collaborative team-player who can quickly earn the confidence of co-workers and teammates

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with management, engineering teams and partners / suppliers

  • Experience in dealing with business considerations and practical limitations related to system design and implementation

  • An aptitude for and interest in complex technology

  • Strong belief in developing carrier grade quality

  • Demonstrable program and program management experience

  • Extensive experience working in an Agile development environment

  • Extensive experience working in telecommunications and networking devices (Satellites, Optical Switches, Cellular base stations, IP Routing, Ethernet Switching).

  • Knowledge of satellite components such as modems, RF, electronics and antenna technologies are a plus

  • Experience reporting on development status and mitigating issues

  • Experience in dealing with business considerations and practical limitations related to system design and implementation

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective collaboration and team motivation.

  • Technical expertise in software engineering practices, including design, development, and testing.

  • Experience working with international and geographically dispersed teams.

  • Familiarity with automation practices and quality assurance methods.

  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.

  • Strong organizational and planning skills.

Decision Making

  • In this role, the individual will have significant impact on the On-Board Payload Software development. They will be responsible for the deliverables of the development team, talent acquisition for their team, and fostering a constructive work atmosphere.

  • They will need to make recommendations and decisions based on applicable experience.

Supervision Excercises

  • This position has direct reports working in development and test roles.

The successful candidate must be able to work in Canada and obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods program (CGP).
