Parsons Corporation Civil Engineering Technologist - Transportation & Traffic in Ottawa, Ontario

Ready to put your expertise to work on marquee transportation projects that will change the urban fabric of our community? Parsons is now hiring a Technologist to work in our traffic/transportation planning group at our Ottawa office. The successful candidate will help support a wide variety of transportation-related projects, ranging from smaller land development projects to larger municipal projects involving the study, planning, and design of infrastructure such as complete streets, pathways, cycling facilities, rapid transit facilities, and other transportation systems.
The candidate will carry out some, or all, of the following responsibilities, which will vary on a project-by-project basis:
Conducting on-site surveys and traffic counts;
Conducting site investigations to obtain an understanding of existing conditions, site constraints, and other challenges;
Completing warrants for traffic signal control, auxiliary turn lanes, etc.;
Perform multi-modal and comprehensive traffic operations analyses using state of the art analysis software applications in support of transportation studies and infrastructure design projects;
Conducting basic design tasks using computer aided drafting software;
Preparing letters, technical memorandums, reports, exhibits, graphics, and drawings to clearly present information to internal and external groups, clients, and industry peers.
Recognized technical degree or diploma with a focus on the transportation planning or traffic engineering field is required, and 5+ years of related work experience, or equivalent, is preferred;
Strong experience with Microsoft Office Suite (with an emphasis on EXCEL and WORD applications);
Basic ability to develop programming code to simplify data management and analysis;
Proficient in the use of common transportation analysis software (including EMME, SYNCHRO, ARCADY, SIDRA, VISSIM, etc.);
Knowledge of relevant transportation design standards, and basic skills using transportation design software (including AutoCAD, AutoTurn, MicroStation, TORUS, etc.);
An understanding of the City of Ottawa's TIA and MMLOS Guidelines is considered an asset.
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English is necessary. Potential candidates must be able to demonstrate their report writing and oral communication skills. Bilingual English/French is not required but is preferred.
The ideal candidate is a team player, has the ability to multi-task while working on many projects at once, and is self-motivated. It is important to have a strong knowledge of the transportation network within the National Capital Region, possess a valid driver's license, and have access to a vehicle.
