Some of these positions will be moving to OPG Corporate Headquarters: In Summer 2025, OPG will officially welcome employees to our new Corporate Headquarters located at 1908 Colonel Sam Drive, Oshawa, Ontario. This new space will enable teamwork, collaboration and innovation that will help us to achieve our mission to electrify life in one generation . This position will be temporarily based in Pickering, ON or Darlington, ON until the move to Headquarters in the Summer of 2025.

JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven Engineering professional to join our team in the role of Manager, Engineering.

Reporting to Senior Manager of Engineering, the primary responsibilities for this role include managing a team of engineers and technical. We are recruiting for positions supporting the Pickering and Darlington Nuclear Generating Station Engineering Divisions, Component and Equipment Engineering, Reactor Safety Engineering and Equipment Reliability Engineering.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Responsible for managing a team of Engineers and Technical Officers tasked with Station Performance Engineering, Components and Equipment Engineering, Reactor Safety Engineering or Equipment Reliability Engineering.

  • Participate in long-range planning for asset management and company generation planning

  • Be responsible for providing technical and consultative services, problem solving, technical advice and guidance, technical specifications, and related services to station/facility personnel, management and other interested parties including regulatory agencies, concerning inspections, operations and maintenance of Nuclear Steam Generators and Feeder Pipes and supporting structures in one or any combination of the following fields: Maintenance (mechanical, preventive & corrective); Operations; Nuclear Safety Analysis and Assessment, including safe operating envelope, Component, equipment, Fitness-for-Service, and Piping Engineering Programs; Environmental qualification; Chemistry and materials science; Configuration management, engineered modifications and design basis control; Inspection and maintenance (eg. NDE); System & equipment design, Analysis (structural, component, thermal hydraulic, specialized Nuclear), Research & Development Management; Functional area projects (eg. technical, analytical, engineering, modifications)

  • Carry out managerial accountabilities for the work of a staff complement composed of professional and technical personnel, engaged in the work of designated areas of the aforementioned fields. Requires performing this role in accordance with approved policies, procedures and standards. Provide meaningful input to the business plan and formulation of department work programs and tasks. Develop work plans, consistent with time horizon of role to achieve assigned tasks. Utilizing these work plans, establish context, subordinate tasks, controls and limits. Assign tasks to subordinates, ensuring the commensurate level of complexity, discussing the limits and methods to be used, specifying the task parametres and setting overall context for the assignment. Formulate specific work assignments, and include subordinate input and discussion on requirements, issues and the like.

  • Act as a coach and facilitator to create and sustain a non-threatening, supportive, team environment, actively working with staff to empower them to attain optimal work performance with a high level of personal responsibility and self-management. Demonstrate openness and trust through the sharing of information and through establishing two-way team relationships, holding regular meetings with all immediate subordinates to discuss various subjects, including, safety, work plans and scope, problems and suggestions for improvement. Identify training requirements required to perform tasks, ensuring the training is relevant and evaluation measures meaningful. Establish performance measures and carry out personal effectiveness appraisals and regular reviews, with discussions on wage adjustments or incentives. Make effective recommendations on staff selection and induction, taking appropriate and timely actions to deal with unsatisfactory performance, consistent with approved policies and procedures. Provide a work environment that is conducive to employee well being, diversity, and ensuring harassment-free environment.

  • Establish clear and effective working relationships with subordinates Communicate the overall organization goals and the direction, which guides the operation of the work programs/function. Evaluate the potential capability of subordinate and act as a mentor, meeting with each individual on a regular basis to discuss development plans, and provide appropriate advice.

  • Seek to improve work processes, cultivating an awareness of organisational changes that impact on the need to adapt methods and operations. Develop strategies and work processes for the plant. Analyze technical results and adjust/implement work programs as necessary, including the identification of resources required, optimizing performance. Provide assurance that activities are implemented at minimum cost within budgetary limitations. Ensure management systems are in place to meet all due diligence requirements and are effectively managed on a continuing basis.

  • Continually assess and maintain Ontario Power Generation (OPG) and Nuclear-specific governing documents, including policies, standards and procedures, in compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Other Duties as Required

EDUCATION

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering is Required

  • P. Eng License is considered an asset

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong leadership skills with a minimum of 6 years of management experience required

  • Previous experience in a Nuclear environment is an asset

  • Ability to communicate strategically, effectively and clearly with excellent oral and writing skills.

  • Demonstrated solid judgement with a strong business acumen with proven track records of achieving success while providing valued input to a management team.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced changing environment while effectively managing and adapting to ever-changing priorities.

  • Ability to present information clearly and effectively to senior management and external stakeholders.

  • Proven ability to meet deadlines with grace under pressure.

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods.
