Washington State Department of Transportation Design/Field Engineer and Office Engineer – Transportation Engineer 3 (Multiple Positions) in Olympia, Washington

About WSDOT Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is the steward of an integrated, multimodal transportation system that helps to ensure people and goods move safely and efficiently throughout the state. In addition to building, maintaining, and operating the state highway system, WSDOT operates the largest ferry system in the nation, manages the world's longest floating bridge, and recently completed the world's widest tunneling project. The Opportunity WSDOT has four exciting opportunities for motivated, experienced engineers who are looking for an opportunity to move into a supervisory role. These positions will support delivery of design and construction projects. WSDOT is seeking engineers with strong technical, engineering, and interpersonal skills to fill these positions. Olympic Region has vacancies in the Tumwater Project Office as a Design/Field Engineer, the Lacey Project Office as a Design/Field Engineer, and in the Port Orchard Office as a Design/Field Engineer and an Office Engineer. These unique opportunities will provide varying experience and potential for growth through the oversight of both design and construction aspects of project delivery. The Design/Field Engineer positions will have the responsibility to lead inspection efforts for construction projects, as well as provide project management and technical guidance and direction in the preparation of plans, specifications, and estimates. The Office Engineer positions will be responsible for the supervision and guidance in preparing contractor payments, materials documentation, review and processing of change orders and contractor submittals, as well as preparing budget and cost reports. All four positions will manage and mentor each of their respective team members and provide guidance regarding design and construction functions to ensure that WSDOT projects meet established standards, policies, and procedures. Communication is paramount, as these positions will regularly communicate with key members within WSDOT as well as local agencies, contractors, and others. The top candidates selected for these positions must be creative in identifying and solving problems, possess excellent project management skills, support, and provide an inclusive work environment and have an aspiration to develop their staff to become future leaders of the department. What to Expect These positions may be required to inspect transportation construction work for conformance with the contract during daytime and nighttime and in inclement (hot, cold, wet, etc.) weather. Among the varied range of responsibilities held within these roles, the Design/Construction positions will: *Manage the development of plans, specifications and estimates for project development. *Interpret, prepare, and review project design and construction documents. *Lead a WSDOT construction quality assurance and/or verification team. *Prepare change order documentation and estimates and seek change approvals from the appropriate change approval authorities. *Review plans, provisions, estimates and permit requirements to ensure constructability and safety standards are attainable. Among the varied range of responsibilities held within these roles, the Office Engineer positions will: *Oversee and review of progress payments, project documentation, final estimates, and final records. *Track compliance of contractor work with State and Federal regulations related to Underutilized Disadvantage Business Enterprise (UDBE/DBE) goal tracking, training, certified payro
