Garmin Team Leader Software Engineering in Olathe, Kansas

We’re seeking a dedicated leader to direct and coordinate activities of a software engineering team made up of developers with diverse capability levels in the design of new products, enhancement of existing designs and development of test procedures. Must be able to directly supervise software team members, consulting with Human Resources to address employee relations issues, hire and train new associates and oversee training and mentoring of all associates on your team.\n\n We are looking for a full-time Software Engineering Team Leader to direct and support software engineers at our headquarters in Olathe, Kansas (a beautiful suburb of Kansas City). In this role, you’ll be responsible for coordinating and participating in generating software requirements and designs for a product or family of products in accordance with Garmin’s software development methodology. Other essential functions include:\n\n\n\tWork with Human Resources to address employee relations issues as needed including writing and conducting annual performance evaluations\n\tParticipate in software design reviews as necessary, assuring proper attendees and proper coverage of topics, imparting lessons learned and good design practices to all who attend\n\tCreate product development plans as directed by engineering management\n\tEnsure the team meets overall development goals in accordance with the product development plan or market requirements and ensure project milestones are met\n\tMonitor progress of the software teams in meeting product requirements and schedule compliance\n\tSet the tone for the team environment and build healthy team relationships\n\tParticipate in college campus interviewing and other recruiting activities\n\tConduct 1:1's with your team\n\tWill be involved in strategic and sprint planning, daily standups, demos, and scoping of releases (to name a few)\n\tWill work cross functionally with other members in the organization\n Qualified candidates must possess a Bachelors or Masters of Science Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or similar. Other requirements include:\n\n\n\tMust possess detailed knowledge and experience with software development and have prior experience as a Java (service level), .NET (service level), or Mobile developer\n\tExperience with implementing new or updating existing architecture\n\tExperience with code reviews\n\tExtensive experience with juggling multiple competing inputs, in a fast paced environment\n\tMust have 3+ years of experience as a direct line manager of teams of 5+\n\tMust have solid experience managing teams in a true Agile Scrum/Kanban environment\n\tMust have experience with Product lifecycles\n\tMust be willing to travel up to 2-4 times a year overseas (a week at a time)\n\tDemonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills\n\tExperience writing performance reviews and facilitating 1:1's with your team\n\tExperience with directing, assigning, and reporting on projects/priorities\n\tDemonstrated ability to effectively manage technical human resources\n\tDemonstrated ability to work well with others under challenging circumstances\n\n\n\nGarmin International is an equal opportunity employer.
